Mayor Thomas LankeyTownship of Edison
Dear Property Owner,
Let me wish you a Happy & Healthy New Year!
I am proud to present Edison Township’s Recycling & Sanitation 2018 calendar of significant dates, useful information and essential phone numbers. Also our Township has a few exciting new community initiatives.
This year, Edison Township is partnering with Re-Purpose NJ to further reduce our waste stream by recycling clothing, coats, outerwear, handbags and cloth accessories from our trash cans. Green textile recycling bins are available at Edison’s public works buildings at 20 New York Boulevard, 7 Langstaff Avenue and 745 New Durham Road; at the Stelton and Minnie B. Veal Community Centers; and at each of our three public libraries.
Our convenient recycling drop-off locations are located – at 471 Meadow Road in South Edison and at Minnie B. Veal in North Edison.
Edison Township is also embarking on a public awareness initiative this year to reduce storm water pollutants that threaten our rivers, creeks and ultimately Raritan Bay.
Fertilizers, pesticides, motor oil, animal waste, detergents and yard waste pose threats to the aesthetic, economic and recreation value of Raritan Bay. There are easy steps that the community can take to keep our most precious local waterway clean and healthy which are highlighted in this calendar.
Let me remind you that Edison’s Municipal Website: www.edisonnj.org is regularly updated to provide essential information about Town Hall and our services. It is also “mobile friendly” thanks to a “phone app,” compatible with iPhones, Apple and Android Smart Phone devices.
Edison will use state recycling grant money to continue our popular “leaf bag giveaway program” for homeowners this fall.
Remember to download Edison’s “Recycle Coach App” that puts the latest details about sanitation, recycling and special collections for hazardous household waste or e-waste at your fingertips. The “Recycle Coach App” also sends you alerts about service interruptions and allows you to interact with Town Hall.
To remain up-to-date with Edison Township, please sign up for our NIXLE emergency notification that alerts you to local emergencies, road closures, traffic problems and inclement weather via our website. Also, visit our public access TV Channel 15. To help you navigate Edison Township’s menu of services, please contact my office at (732) 248-7298 or for assistance with recycling, sanitation or street maintenance, contact our Public Works Department at (732) 248-7288 or publicworks@edisonnj.org.
Best Wishes,

e Middlesex Greenway is a multi-use trail in New Jersey running from the town of Metuchen to Woodbridge, for a total length of 3.5 miles (5.6 km). e mission of the Middlesex Greenway Coalition is to preserve a historic rail corridor as a rail-trial, and to connect it to a growing system of bike paths, and bike routes. e Middlesex Greenway evolved by converting the abandoned Lehigh Valley Railroad into a 3.5-mile linear County Park Trail from Crows Mill Road near William Street, with a 10-foot wide asphalt surface, and ends in Metuchen west of Amboy and Lake avenues. ere are 12 entry points along the trail’s length.

SOLUTIONS TO STORMWATER POLLUTION
Long appreciated for its great aesthetic, economic and recreation value, an array of human impacts now
threaten the health of the Raritan Bay
Pollution on streets, parking lots and lawns is washed by rain and snow melt into ditches, storm drains, streams,
rivers and ultimately, Raritan Bay.
The stormwater pollution is one of Raritan Bay’s greatest threats to clean water and the rivers and creeks that drain into it. Fertilizers, pesticides, motor oil, animal
waste, detergents, grass clippings, yard waste and litter are all examples of stormwater pollution.

If such materials are in the street, they should beremoved
Uncovered dumpsters and other refuse containerscan cause wastes to reach natural water bodiesduring storm events
Actions You Can Take to Protect and Help Restore the Raritan River & Bay

DON’T FEED WILDLIFE
DON’T LITTER
KEEP A LID ON ALL DUMPSTERS & REFUSE CONTAINERS
