Unique added value

4

• The Northern Netherlands is driven to green the Northern Netherlands economy in order to:– contribute to the climate change objectives – strengthen the economic position of the Northern Netherlands– moving away from natural gas production – creating sustainable employment opportunities in the region– build upon a long time experience in the handling of energy carriers

• We consider hydrogen makes it possible to integrate ever larger amounts of renewable electricity via its use in industry, mobility and to serve as a storage medium for energy

HEAVENN proposal

• For the FCH JU call ‘Hydrogen Valley’, the Northern Netherlands submitted HEAVENN

H2 Energy Applications (in) Valley Environments (for) Northern Netherlands

5

Proposal scope

• Extensive portfolio of projects covering a wide spectrum of innovation and investments– Sourcing of feedstocks

– Production

– Transportation, distribution and utilization of hydrogen

– Strong knowledge and innovation infrastructure

6

Industrial pipeline network

7

Linking chemical industry and public transportInnovative and cost-effective polymer pipeline

Results in mobility

9

HEAVENN key facts

10

• Investment € 89 million, eligible costs € 66,6 million, requested FCH JU contribution € 20 million

• 31 participants from 7 countries (balanced mix: large corporations, SMEs, knowledge institutes, governments

• A lot of support from the Netherlands and abroad• Cross-sectoral: Industry, transport and energy

applications with respectively: 2.800 tpy, 340 tpyand 315 tpy

HEAVENN key facts

11

• Electrolysis capacity of at least 60 MW,• 10 FCH buses (and some 20 more already in operation within the project

timeline),• 105 FCH passenger cars,• refuse trucks,• 6 HDV’s,• FCH inland water transport barge,• 2 Domestic Heat applications,• Industrial heat,• Back-up power for a datacentre,• Onshore Auxiliary Power, etc.

Only the start of bigger investments and serious scale-up!

Scalable and replicable

• Northern Netherlands committed to the complete hydrogen value chain

• Proposed projects are part of a larger plan for 2030, so scale-up is a logical follow-up
