Users’Handbook for Documentary Credits under UCP 600
Users’ Handbook for Documentary Credits under UCP 600 is designed to serve
as an introduction to users of documentary credits, that is, to sellers and buyers who
seek to increase their access to cross-border markets. It strives to demonstrate the way
commercial parties and bankers have used this remarkable commercial device, the
documentary credit, to achieve their objectives. Users’ Handbook is in five parts:
Part One is a brief discussion of international sales and transport.
Part Two explains the banking industry’s crucial role in documentary credit
transactions and illustrates many of the transactions in which commercial parties
utilize the documentary credit.
Part Three explains the way documents control the payment function of the
documentary credit.
Part Four introduces the all-important feature of the documentary credit –
the ways it opens financing options to sellers, which can then extend credit
to buyers.
Part Five introduces the standby credit and illustrates its role in cross-border
transactions.
Users’ Handbook also contains a handy glossary of international trade terms
for easy reference. UCP 600, the latest version of ICC’s universally used rules on
documentary credits, Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits,
is included as an appendix.
The International Chamber of Commerce, the World Business Organization, based
in Paris, is the global leader in the development of standards, rules and reference guides
for international trade.

The Law of Letters
of Credit in China
Commentary and Materials on the Chinese Supreme People’s
Court’s Judicial Interpretations of Letters of Credit
This book is about the PRC law on letters of credit (“LCs”) and how
LC disputes are being resolved in Chinese courts. The author, a
renowned expert in such area, has participated in the drafting of
and discussions on the LC Judicial Interpretations by the Supreme
People’s Court of China during the eight-year period of drafting. This
book is also based on his fifteen years’ practices in this area, 500
plus decided court cases the author collected, and the experience
learned from more than one hundred lectures or trainings given by
the author to over ten thousand judges, lawyers, bankers, traders and
law students in and out of China. This book is worth reading for every
individual, company or banks which has or will have LC transactions
with Chinese parties. Readers will find this book an excellent
reference for understanding PRC law and practice on LCs and better
developing commercial and financial businesses with China especially
when troubles arise in their transactions with Chinese parties.

and applied when working with different trade documents (invoices, transport
documents, insurance documents, certificates of origin…). ISBP also provides
coverage of documents which are not specifically mentioned in UCP.

Global Risks Trade Finance Report 2013 www.iccwbo.org/Products-and-Services/Trade-facilitationBased on data from ICC’s Trade Register, the ICC Banking Commission issues the “Global Risks – Trade Finance” report on a yearly basis providing a timely, accurate and comprehensive outlook on the risks in trade finance from the global trade finance industry’s perspective. Financial regulation requires a solid understanding of the critical issues by all sides – government, regulatory, industry, and multilateral institutions. The ICC Trade Register helps enhance this understanding by making available much-needed data on trade and export finance for the first time.
ICC Global Survey – Rethinking Trade & Finance 2013 ‘An ICC Private Sector Development Perspective’ www.iccwbo.org/Products-and-Services/Trade-facilitation/ICC-Global-Survey-on-Trade-Finance/To respond to financial crises, institutions and policy makers need to focus on improving market intelligence so that future financial decisions can be based on solid evidence. The surveys provide that intelligence. The 2013 report received the participation of two new partners: the International Trade Centre (ITC), to cover credit constraints and non-tariff measures in trade; and Factors Chain International (FCI) providing business trends in factoring. Showcasing a sharp increase in last year, the final report included representatives of 260 banks in 112 countries.
