• RED AND SWOLLEN TONSILS AND UVULA• SORE THROAT• DYSPHAGIA• FEVER• PRESENCE OF WHITE OR YELLOWISH SPOTS IN

THE TONSILS• LOSS OF APPETITE• EARACHE

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT

Antibiotic Therapy• oral penicillin -most common antimicrobial

agent which is taken for 7 days• Amoxicillin• ErythromycinAntipyretic for feverAnalgesic for pain

SURGICAL MANAGEMENT

TONSILLECTOMYRemoval of the palatine

tonsils

NURSING DIAGNOSIS ACUTE PAIN RELATED TO SURGERYNursing Interventions:*Identify causative factors that aggravate pain*Monitor Vital Signs*Assess pain scale*Provide comfortable environment*Put primary focus on non-verbal cues such as

grimacing of face*Administer analgesics as prescribed*Encourage patient to communicate unrelieved pain

Risk for Aspiration related to bleeding in the operated area

Nusing Interventions:*Position the head of the patient to the side

with the chin extended forward*Suction patient if needed*Monitor vital signs especially respiratory rate*Encourage patient to consume cold food (e.g.,

ice cream) to promote vasocontriction
