Programme.
Schemes are
Health and Wellness Centre- 1.5 lakh centre will provide health care including non-

National Health Protection Scheme - which will provide 5 lakh medical coverage to 10
crore poor and approx 50 crore vulnerable families
This will be world’s largest Government funded health care programme.
5.Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-DHAN) scheme launched.
Union Government has launched Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-
DHAN) scheme.
The Scheme aims to make the villages open defecation free and improve the lives of
villagers.
Also with this scheme it will manage and convert cattle dung and solid waste in farms to
compost, bio gas and CNG.

World Wetlands Day Celebrated on February 2 across the world.
In India main Celebration of World Wetlands Day took place at Deepor Beel wetland in
Assam.
It was celebrated to mark the adoption of Ramsar Convention on wetland.
Ramsar Convention is an intergovernmental Treaty adopted in 1971 at Ramsar in Iran.
The objective of treaty is national and international cooperation to conserve and better use
of wetlands.

Inland Waterways Authority of India has signed a project agreement with World Bank for Jal
Marg Vikas Project (JMVP)in River Ganga.
World Bank also signed US $ 375 million loan agreement with Department of Economic
Affairs, Ministry of Finance for JMVP.
The project is expected to complete by 2023, which enable commercial navigation of vessels

Union Government has announced a Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahaabhiyan (KUSUM)
scheme to encourage farmers for solar Farming.
Government announced 1.4 lakh crore fund for this Scheme for 10 years.
About KSUM Scheme:
This Scheme will provide 1.75 M off grid agricultural solar pumps to farmers.
The scheme aims to produce upto 28,250MW solar power in 5 years.
The excess production of solar power will bought by state electricity distribution companies,
hence increase the Farmers income.
It also reduce the consumption of Diesel used in Pumps.

Union Cabinet has given its nod for signing Memorandum of Understanding for Secondment
programme between India and Australia.

India and The Treasury, Government of Australia.
4.‘Prime Minister Research Fellows (PMRF).
Union Cabinet given nod for implementing Prime Minister Research Fellows Scheme.
The scheme will give direct admission in PhD programme in IITs/IISc for the best student
completing B. Tech or Integrated M.Tech or M.Sc. in Science and Technology from
IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERs/IIITs.
The cost of the PMRF scheme is Rs 1650 crore for 7 years.

1.India State of Forest Report 2017
India’ forest cover has been increased by 1% according to the state of forest report 2017.
Mangrove forest increased by 181Sq.Km, Maharashtra has maximum increase by 82 sq.km
followed by Andhra Pradesh by 37 sq kms and Gujarat with 33 sq kms.
It is the 15th biennial forest cover assessment released by Forest Survey of India which is
initiated in 1987.
Key Findings:
India is ranked 10th in world with 24.4% of geographical area under forest and tree cover.
There is an increase of 8, 021 sq km( 6,778 forest cover and 1,243 tree cover )in the total
forest and tree cover of the country comparing with 2015.
Forest cover assessment calculate based on having tree canopy density of 10 % and above in
an area of 1 hectare.
Top Three states which has maximum increase are Andhra Pradesh by 2141 sq km, followed
by Karnataka by 1101 sq km and Kerala by 1043 sq km.
Top 3 states where forest cover decrease are Mizoram by 531 sq km, Nagaland by 450 sq
Km and Arunachal Pradesh by 190 sq km.
Madhya Pradesh has largest forest cover with 77,414 sq.km , Arunachal Pradesh with 6,964
Sq.km , Chhattisgarh with 55547sq.km.
The Main reason for the increase is due to Government’s various conservation and
management policies like Green India Mission, National Agro-Forestry policy (NAP), REDD
plus policy, Joint Forest Management(JFM), National Afforestation Programme and funds
under Compensatory Afforestation to States.
And the reason for the decrease in some states are due toshifting cultivation, other biotic
pressures,
rotational felling, diversion of forest lands for developmental activities, submergence of
forest cover, agriculture expansion and natural disasters.
The present assessment is based on data from the indigenous LISS – III sensor, 277 scenes
from Resourcesat-2 satellite and 33 scenes from Resourcesat -1 satellite which is procured
from National Resource sensing Centre , Hyderabad.

Union cabinet has given its nod for constituting a Tribunal for Mahanadi Water Dispute
under Inter-State River Disputes Act(ISRWD), 1956 request from Odisha.

the overall availability of water in Mahanadi Basin.
As per ISRWD act 1956, the tribunal has to submit its report and decision within 3 years of its

As per this scheme , the bonds can be purchased by person who is citizen of India or

State Bank of India is authorised to issue and encash Electoral Bonds in its 4 authorised
Branches.
The First issue will start from 1st March 2018.
Who can accept the Electoral Bond?
Electoral bonds can be receive only by the political party which is registered under section 29A of
the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951) and which secured not less than 1 % of vote
polled in previous election to Lokh Sabha or legislative assembly of state.
How Electoral Bonds work?
If person wants to donate money to any political party, he can buy Electoral bonds from
notified bank by making payment .

Then Political party will convert this bond back to money.

Union Government has launched Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-
