How to Apply

•Atwo-tothree-pagedouble-spacedessaydescribingyourinterestinandcommitmenttopublicchildwelfarework

•Anofficialtranscript

These materials must be submitted by the posted deadline each semester to the School of Social Work’s coordinator of field. DFPS staff interview all applicants and forward their recommendations to the director of field. The Title IV-E director must approve in advance all exceptions to the required curriculum.

What is the Title IV-E Program?TheSchoolofSocialWorkatTexasStateUniversity,inconjunc-tionwiththeCenterforChildrenandFamilies,offersindividual-ized,specializedtraininginchildwelfarethroughacontractwithTitleIV-EoftheSocialSecurityAct.

ThiscontractenablesqualifiedBSWorMSWstudentstobuildandenhanceprofessionalskillsinfostercaremanagement,adoptionassistanceandcasemanagement.StudentsalsoreceivecomprehensivefieldplacementintheCentralTexasarea.

Inexchangeforafundedinternship,theIV-EscholarisrequiredupongraduationtofulfillanemploymentcontractwiththeTexasDepartmentofFamilyandProtectiveServices(DFPS)ChildProtec-tiveServicesprogram.NOTE:AIV-EscholarwhofailstocompletethisobligationisrequiredbylawtorepaytheStateofTexas.

CurrentCPSemployeeswhowishtopursuesocialworkeduca-tionmustcontacttheirsupervisorsforagencyguidelines.Tuitionandfeesareavailableforqualifiedagencyanduniversity-approvedapplicants.

Childwelfaresocialworkers,afterintensivetraining,dealwithchildrenandtheirfamilies,courts,lawenforcement,medicalinstitutionsandschools,allinthecontextofpublicchildwelfareandfamilypolicy.Thesesocialworkersperformamyriadoftasksincomplexfamilysituations,including:

• Assessingchildwell-beingandsafety

• Preparinganddeliveringcourtdocumentsandtestimony

• Providingcasemanagementservices

• Referringclientstoneededresources

• Developingandmonitoringfostercareandadoptiveplacements

• Trainingfosterfamiliesandadoptivefamilies

•Organizingcommunitiestocreatehealthierenvironmentsforchildren

•Planningandadvocatingforeffectivechildwelfarepoliciesandprograms
