Timeline Development

History of GoogleGoogle was started by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who met at Stanford University in 1995.

In 1996 they began to collaborate on a search engine, BackRub, which was using up too much of Stanford’s bandwith.

Google Incorporation

• On September 4, 1998, Google files for incorporation.

• Bank account opened with a check donated by Andy Bechtolsheim.

• Work area is set up in a friend’s garage in Santa Margarita, California.

• Google’s first employee is hired.

T The Timeline • In February 2006 Google produced Gmail

followed later in the year by an expansion to Google Apps.

• In October Google gave educational institutions to sign up for the service, free of charge, and renamed it Google Apps for Education.

• By 2007, Google made all registration public and all domains using GOOGLE Apps would get increased storage.

• October, 2007, Google announced an increase in the email storage for Google Apps domains.

• In January, 2009, Google Apps became a part of the Lab Suites so users could add their gadgets such as offline tasks, and vacation time.

• Towards the middle of the year Google began providing GovCloud to host Apps in a new environment. They also upgraded all their services to be in sync with Microsoft Outlook.

• Google Apps accounts are transferred to the same back end as other Google accounts. This aligns them so that they receive all updates at the same time.

• By 2013, Google Apps Education adopted by many high end institutions , some of which are shown in slide 7.
