Our 2012 calendar of key events taking place in Epidemiology next year contains 138 listings. As usual, it contains a wide variety of offerings, including numerous short courses, a dozen or so summer programs, and multiple meetings for professional organizations of epidemiologists and prublic health professionals. There were at least two large Congresses of epidemiologists last year in Montreal and Edinburgh. In 2012, there will be a European Congress of Epidemiology in Porto Portugal in early September and a Population Health Congress in Adelaide Australia shortly afterwards sponsored by the Australasian Epidemiology Society. DIRECTOR—GRADUATE PROGRAM IN PUBLIC HEALTH
Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and Old Dominion University (ODU) are seeking candidates for the Director of our Graduate Program in Public Health. This joint program was established in 1997 to award the MPH degree, and is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The Program enrolls approximately 60 new students per year, and currently offers tracks in Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Management/Policy, and Health Promotion. Courses are taught during evenings, on weekends, and via several distance learning technologies. The position requires a doctorate in public health, medicine, dentistry, or an allied health field. Candidates without a public health doctorate must have an MPH degree. Candidates should have successful administrative, managerial, research and teaching experience at the Professor or Senior Associate Professor level.
