Experience is the best teacher. Because
of what experience can teach us, 21 were
came for the program. One had to leave
earlier as he was offered a job and could
not continue the program with the rest.
20 are left in the program. Who are they?
They areMCMFUSM 5! They called
themselves the Sunshine Gang.
The Sunshine Gang or formally
known as MCMF USM 5 is one of the
latest group in this program that helps
them achieve their goal or dream.
Their dreamis to improve andto get good
jobs. They might be the latest to join the
program but they are not the least. Yes
definitely not.
In the beginning of the program, each
of the students in the class seemed to be
introverted and laid back. They hardly
spoke and conversed in English language.
As time passed by, they improved and
became better tremendously. They speak
confidently, completed tasks perfectly and
they are ready to meet the world!
Each of the modules created in this
program was so helpful in creating a well-
rounded student. Here in USM 5 the
Students were facilitated and trained by
Miss Louisa Chan. She motivated and
managed the class with skill and kindness.
Definitely, the students of USM 5 were
inspired to continue learning and
improving themselves.
The Sunshine Gang promised that
they will not stop learning and improving
themselves and they will not give up in
the battle of real life. Apart from that,
they will continue supporting each other.
To them, friendship is forever. For the
precious moments they had in the
program, they thanked God for his
blessings.
We are moving towards the pinnacle

I will speak English at all times.
I know that when I am proficient in English
I will be a better global communicator.
This will allow me to realise my fullest
potential at work, and in life.
I will speak English clearly and confidently.
I will strive to use the right tenses, the correct
grammar and the appropriate words.
I promise to speak English at all times.
I must speak English at all times.

USM - There are different ways to
describe stress. Stress is a family of
related experience cause by stressors,
reflection of state of imbalance, a natural
and necessary process, perceptual
individuals respond differently to the
same stressors and it is our internal
response to our event.
There are three types of stress. It is
physical stress, emotional stress and
cognitive stress. In the first assignment
we produced “The Stress Management
CD” in the form of sketches and we
creatively presented that in 3 groups.
The first group’s video was about
physical stress. Physical stress was
expressed by hurting themselves. Finally
they had overcome their stress by talk to
others (i.e. her sister). A brief definition
of physical stress was such an eye
catching at the beginner. The actors and
actress were Ila, Lily, Khairil, Nur, Ain and
Fadli.
The second group was about
emotional stress. The stress appears in
family, workplace and in marriage.
July 4, 2011 - Students of USM5 went to
the nearest Pizza Hut franchisee hoping
to create one of the most memorable
moments in the program. This turned
out to be a disaster, ending up the
students getting upset with the services
provided.
At around 1.00 p.m., the students
arrived at the Pizza Hut restaurant in
town after a 5-minute drive from USM
Campus.
Arriving at the restaurant, the
students were ignored by the
restaurants’ employees. The students
had to look for a suitable place to site
them. The employee took about 5
minutes to arrive with the menu even
though there were not many other
guests in the restaurant.
Neither a smile nor a word of
welcome was said. On top of that, the
waitress had negative facial expressions
while taking the students’ order. The
students learned that negative facial
expressions are not welcoming.
EDUCATION
To make it worst, the food took 40
minutes to arrive! The students were
also not given food voucher to
compensate for the late servings.
The manager and waitress also did
not apologize for the late food arrival.
At the counter, when the student
were about to pay for the called food
and “fantastic” services, which is
charged with a 10% service fee of the
total amount ordered, the person in-
charge had another opportunity to
apologize or explain for the lateness,
but they did not and they also did not
say thank you to the customers.
There are similar comments in the
wikimapia site where Jate comment
“last time I go here I have to wait for
like 1h and 15 min for my regular size
pan pizza. Plus, my soup of the day
does not even arrived. I think twice to
go there again.”
From this we learned the
importance of positive body language
and good customer service.
Shopping: Worst Experience 15 minutes vs 1 hour food delivery after order
However, they managed to
solve their stress by consulting a
counsellor and talking to others (i.e.
friends and mother). This drama was
uniquely presented in with musical
background without conversation.
These were acted by Adah, Fatin,
NurFatin, Ada, Sya and Intan.
Last but not least, the third group
gave us a clear picture of cognitive
stress. They had creatively presented
the artwork by showing the
combination of some pictures and
some acting. The symptoms of
cognitive stress are confused, not
focused and always forgetful.
This group overcome these
problems with exercise, meditations,
talking to friends and consulting a
counsellor. The members of group
three are Maliza, Mas, Izza, Ida, Aina
and Haziq.
In conclusion, from these videos, we
see the different stressors. Hence we
are able to manage and overcome our
stresses in the positive way.

USM5’S CHEER All classes came up with their unique class cheer to present to others on
convocation day.
by Norhaslinda binti Noh
Sketches and Role Play
by Siti Nor Maliza binti Alias
USM-On the second day we attended
this MCMF program, we have been
tasked to create a class cheer. The
cheer was representing our class, USM
5. Therefore, we divided into three
small groups to create our own group
cheer. All of class members
participated and then presented each
group’s cheer in front of the class.
After some discussion, on the
3rd
day we presented our groups’ cheer
and combined that into a class cheer.
We also added a few interesting steps
to make it more organized and
systematic
All class members contributed
ideas to make our cheer more joyful
and energetic. After combining,
practicing and memorising the steps
for three days, we finally performed
the cheer in front of other class.
On the showdown day, other
classes presented their cheer
successfully. When it came to our turn,
we performed with all our hearts. Even
though we did not have much time to
practice, I think we did pretty well. It is
because we BELIEVE we CAN do it an
we DID IT. Go USM5!
For lesson 4, we were given some
scripts for the sketches entitled, “The
bank”, “The ticket inspector”, and
“The superlative vacuum cleaner”.
We acted it out with our own styles.
We enjoyed acting the sketches and
everybody volunteered themselves to
act.
Last but not least, in lesson 6 we
learnt how to pronounce the words
using the correct intonation. We were
given the short dialogue to act it out
with excitement and scared
intonation.
In conclusion, this module teaches
participants how to pronounce the
words correctly using the right
intonation.
This is because, in spoken English
we need to use different intonations
to emphasize different words or
sentences to effectively communicate
different meaning.
The sketches and role play exercises
are scenarios where we have to act
out. We need to understand the
characters of the sketches and role
play, so that we can act naturally. In
our class, we had done some sketches
and role play activities. These
activities were included in our lesson
module.
The sketches and role play
exercises were included in our English
module. In this module, we did the
role play in lesson 3 (What do you
think of the party?), lesson 4
(Sketches), and lesson 6 (Handling
customer face to face – pronunciation
4).
In lesson 3, we did the role play with
the title, “What do you think of the
party?”. We learnt how to mingle
with others when we attend different
occasions or parties, especially
company’s dinner. We need to
continue our dialogue to conclude the
conversation. We did our
owndialogue and acting it out to the
class.

good time.
After lunch, we packed and was ready
to leave the island. The boat took us to
the entrance of Penang National Park at
3.00 pm.
It took about 10 minutes to arrive there.
Everyone was tired and sleepy. We
drove back to our hostel/home with
wonderful experiences out in the
nature.
Although everyone was tired, we
had great fun and were happy to have
these unforgettable moments that we
spent together. This activity had
strengthened our friendship an bonded
us together.
We will have fond memories of this
outing for a long time.
The next morning, we prepared for
breakfast. The had ‘cucur’, fried rice
and tea on our menu.
We ate happily and at the same
time enjoying the fresh sea breeze. The
next activity were two more games. We
had ‘galahpanjang’, and ‘tujukasut’. In
those games, we expanded a lot
energy running and time and enjoyed
it.
TELUK BAHANG - USM 5 organize an
outdoor activity on one of the
weekends at the Penang National Park.
We went on 9th
July 2011, for a 2-day
and 1-night class outing. These
activities included hiking to Kerachut
Beach and camping at Monkey Beach.
We left on Saturday morning and
checked in at Penang National Park
entrance. At about 11.30 am, we
started hiking to the Kerachut Beach.
This track took about one and half
hours to arrive at Kerachut Beach.
Along the journey, we enjoyed the
beautiful flora and fauna the island had
to offer.
When we arrived at Kerachut, we
took time to rest and had some fried
noodle together. After that, we played
some games while waiting for the
boat. Around 4.00pm, the boat came
and brought us to Monkey Beach. The
boat driver showed us many rocks
which looked like crocodile, turtle and
rabbit.
After 15 minutes, we arrive at Monkey
Beach. The tent were set up for us and
we prepared for dinner. We also took
the opportunity to swim in the sea and

He has to undergo a two-week training starting on
July 15th

together with him. We gathered at Kolej Fajar
Harapan at 8 pm, and went to Bukit Gedong.
After spending time there for about one
and a half hours, we then went to Sunshine
Supermarket at Bayan Baru for some activities.
We arrived at Sunshine Supermarkat at 10:30 pm,
and spent almost 2 hours there bowling.
The next day, before the class was dismissed,
Rushdi shared a few words on his last day here.
We formed a circle around Rushdi while he faced
us one on one and bid farewell to us.
At that moment, everybody’s emotion
could not be controlled, almost everyone were in
tears as we were sad to see him go although we ha
only been together for a week. Everyone could not
say anything.
We plays Friends Forever’ song by Padi

we were singing that song together specially for
Rushdi.

The naïve says Written by: Ainatul Mardhiah Hashim (USM 5)
As I pass that door, I see world.
As I pass that door, I see mountain.
As I pass that door, I said ‘I am too small for world’
As I pass that door, I said ‘mountain, you are so high my hand could not reach’
As I began to know dark, I became smaller like ants.
As I began to be criticized, I became lighter like dusts.
Somehow, ants are brave they don’t learn the word DIE.
Dusts are free flying in the air like nobody’s business.
I did nothing but fear inside.
My fear of destiny I could not attain.
My eyes were closed,
I was buried in my shell.
The years pass by leaving me in my shell.
Sleeping and dreaming with winter and summer.
Until I realized I have slept too much,
Too much until I have to wake up! Face the destiny, pessimist!
The Almighty loves me he gave me sunshine.
Sun raise, Oh I have to wake up.
Destiny here I come with open heart.
Strength, please be my backbone as I fight to win.
They said ‘It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves’
I said I have to go with the flow, flowing without stopping.
Conquer the world that I dwell, look at it as I live on the top.
Defeat the highest mountain, optimist.

STYLE
Whether you like it or not, you are judged
by the way you look. The following are a few
tips to get you looking your best.
Go to a salon for a haircut.
Get a manicure.
Shower daily. No one wants to smell
day old body odor.
Brush your teeth a least twice a day.
Remove excess hair. Clip those nose
hairs and keep your face clean shaven.
Wear only clean, pressed clothes.
Stay fit. You don't have to have bulging
muscles, but you should keep your
weight under control.
Update your wardrobe with a new
shirts. Throw away your oldschool shirt.
Avoid wearing those smelly sneakers
that you play basketball in. Invest in a
few pairs of nice shoes.
Wear nice cologne, but don't overdo it.
Pay attention to your lips. Chapped and
cracked lips are very unattractive. Invest in
lip balm to keep your lips smooth and moist.
So there you have some great tips on
maintaining your appearance. If you take the
time to care about how you look, you will
start to see a vast improvement in your life.
Your goal in getting dressed for work is to project a professional,
competent image, regardless of your employment level or career
path.
The styles, colors, lengths and fit of your fashion choices will
speak volumes about your ability to do your job. If you are
concerned about your career, you'll be more concerned with
looking professional than looking cute or trendy.
In general, the more distracting a piece of clothing or jewelry is,
the less appropriate it is for office wear. More guidelines to
looking polished:

10 Tips for
Mens to Groom Themselves for Success
by Nur Laily Mocktar
Color plays a big part in professional
image. Traditional career colors
include red (aggressive), navy
(trustworthy), gray (conservative) and
black (chic). Most of these colors work
well in pantsuits, skirts and shoes and
mix back with softer feminine colors
that are appropriate like ice blue, lilac,
soft pink and ivory. Loud colors like
hot pink and wild prints are much
riskier in the office, but some creative
types can still pull them off.
Jewelery that jangles (chandelier
earrings, stacks of bangles) is
distracting. Opt for stud earrings or
single bracelets.
Designer labels are great, but heavily
logoed clothing and accessories look
cluttered and frivolous in the work
place. A small designer bag is fine; a
logo trench coat looks
Slouchyhandbags look sloppy. Choose
structured styles that project an
organized image.
Most of what constitutes a polished
image is in the details: manicured
nails, run-free hose, scuff-free shoes,
neat hair.
Choose well-made items that are free
from obvious designer labels for the
most professional look.
Fit is everything when you are talking
about tailored working clothes. Pants
should be fitted, but free of visible
panty lines. Skirts, especially straight
styles like pencil skirts, should be
loose enough to sit down in
comfortably. Jackets should be able to
be buttoned. And blouses shouldn't
gap between buttonholes.

HEALTH & FOOD
Why should we take
breakfast?
by NurulIzza
I am sure most of us have heard of the
phrase, "Breakfast is the most important
meal of the day," but I wonder how many
of us seriously take our breakfast? I
believe many of us are not doing that.
I feel guilty when I skip my
breakfast and I know of friends who
regularly skip theirbreakfasts –the
reasons they give is that they do not have
time and don’t like taking breakfast.
Another common excuse of
breakfast avoiders is that they are doing
it to lose weight. Here are some reasons
why we should take our breakfast and do
so regularly.
Breakfast can help prevent
strokes, heart attacks and sudden death.
For those who always skip breakfast, you
should start avoiding that habit from now
on. Recently, research confirms that one
of the worst practices you can develop is
avoiding breakfast. Why?
The frequency of heart attacks,
sudden death, and stroke peaks between
6 a.m. and noon, with the highest
incidence being between 8 a.m. and 10
a.m. What mechanism within the body
could account for this significant jump in
sudden death in the early morning hours?
The answer is Platelet, those tiny
elements in the blood that keep us from
bleeding to death if we get a cut, can
group together inside our blood vessel
due to cholesterol or plaque build up in
the blood vessel lining.
This simple breakfast will keep
our platelets from sticking together,
keep blood clots from forming, and
perhaps head off a potential heart attack
or stroke.Breakfast, truly is the most
important meal of the day.
A Durian Feast by FatinWahida
Durian is considered the King of Fruits and
is famous throughout Malaysia for its
pleasant taste and aroma. It is the durian
season again! Not everyone (especially
foreigners) is crazy over durians due to its
strong and unique aroma.
However, many people love the durians
from Penang andthe best time to indulge
in the King of Fruits is from the month
of May to late July this year.
This year’s durian season is
much later due to the unpredictable
weather. Most popular durian
located at PantaiAcheh and
BalikPulau. Most of these farms are
closed to the public and only a few
are open and even then, they tend
to be more of eco-tourism
orientated.
Like any other places
throughout the nations, BalikPulau
offer “ALL YOU CAN EAT” durians
for RM40. Some of our friends had
a wonderful outing at the
PondokUpeh farm in BalikPulau.
The owner supplied tents,
tables, chairs and washing area
together with complementary
mineral water for our thirsty throats
as well.
The durians’ flesh is sweet
and refreshing, that surprise people
who never tried it before.
It is in the morning hours that
platelets become the most activated and
tend to form these internal blood clots at
the greatest frequency. However, eating
even a very light breakfast prevents the
morning platelet activation that is
associated with heart attacks and strokes.
Studies performed at Memorial
University in St. Johns, Newfoundland
found that eating a light, very low-fat
breakfast was critical in modifying the
morning platelet activation.
Subjects in the study consumed
either low-fat or fat-free yogurt, orange
juice, fruit, and a source of protein
coming from yogurt or fat-free milk.
With this fact, we should start
taking our breakfast. Variety, moderation
and balance are keys to healthy meals.
We can begin with Quaker oats,
cornflakes or muesli with low fat milk.If
we have extra time, we can make
pancakes, muffins or waffles and eat with
fresh fruits.
We also can enjoy multigrain
wholemeal toast with fruit spread, our
favourite nut butter or with half boiled
eggs. Other breakfast include soup
noodles, fried noodles, rice porridge, loh
mai kai, lontong, puris, chapatti, iddlis or
thosai also a good food to start our days.
Even though we are in a hurry, we
can grab our sandwiches with tuna, egg or
lean chicken filling with lots of tomatoes,
cucumber and salad. Some sensible
beverages choices include plain water,
coffee or tea with low fat milk, or plain
black, malted drinks such as Milo or Horlicks
with or without milk, plain barley, Chinese
tea, green tea, hot soy drink, fresh juices,
and fresh milk.
So, never ever miss out your
breakfast and make it a habit as a
part of our healthy life.
Yummy!!!!!

Penang - On 1

The reason for the activity is to teach us to appreciate the
nature and to get some fresh air outside class.
Before we went to FajarHarapan’s lake, we gathered
in the class. We wore comfortable clothes for our activities.
Then we walked together from the class to the lake. It only
takes 5 minutes to arrive at the lake.
When we arrived at the lake, we took our sweet time
to rest and eat rambutan that Izza brought.
Eating time with juicy rambutan
After we finished our eating and chatting, we started our
games. The first game that we played was a ‘Balloon game’. It
was fun. We were tired out as we have to run around and step
on others’ balloon without stepping on them.
After that, we played another game and end the day
with a photography session. Then, we ended our activities to
continue our lesson in the class.
Although all of us were drenched in sweat and
physically tired, we had a lot of fun and it made us close than
before.

Penang – A futsal game between My Career My Future (MCMF) Program groups was held on Tuesday, June 27, 2011. The game started at 8 pm and the venue was at the futsal
court, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Sport Centre. The USM1 group was the organizer of the futsal game. The purpose of this activity was carried out so we get to know each
other as friends from different groups. It is as good exercise for staying healthy.
USM5 also participated in this game. We sent in both the men and women team. In the men’s category, four teams participated and they were USM1, USM2, USM3
and a combination of USM5 and USM6 team. USM5 and USM6 combined together because there were only three guys in the USM5 group. In the women’s category, we have
USM1, USM2, USM3 and USM5. We played each game for about 7 minutes.
The first match for the men was between USM1 and USM2 and USM2 won the match with 2-0. After a few matches, it was the time for the combined USM5 and USM6
to play against USM3 in the men’s category. Unfortunately, USM3 was too tough for the combined SUM5 and 6 an they lost the match with a 2-0.
After that, the USM5 women’s team played against USM3 even though most of them did not have any experience in playing futsal. However, they played quite well for
their first match. The result was a goalless draw. Then the USM5 men’s team played against USM2 and in this match, the team scored their first goal!
Unfortunately, they lost this match to USM2 with a 2-1. In the next match which was between USM2 and USM5 in the women’s category. USM2 first scored a goal and
that was followed by USM5. USM5’s goal was scored by Norhidayah with a great right foot shot. The result was a draw with 1-1. We could not continue with the next match
because the the organizer had only booked the court until 10pm. We wanted to continue the game on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
Through this activity, the relationship between participants and tutors has become closer and we get to know each other.
