Looking Ahead ---

Each Cubmaster and Scoutmaster should be

reviewing their unit’s Journey to Excellence

progress several times during the year. In

August and September, focus is on the Retention and Building Cub / Boy Scouting. Venturers have similar

criteria. Now is the time to set your Unit Recruiting Goal (if you haven’t done so already) so that this is a

strong contributor to your final 2014 JTE Score when your unit recharters. It’s harder to bring larger numbers

of new members later in the year when those youth have already committed to other activities.

Cub Scout Leaders:

As part of our Council Rechartering, we are challenged to achieve

the following:

Each new Tiger, Cub and Webelos Scout should complete the

requirements for and receive their Bobcat Badge by October

15th.

Why? Positive involvement in the advancement program as-

sures greater retention.

Each pack should have a major outdoor event within 2 months

of their Join Scouting Night.

Why? Outdoor activities are major motivators in Scouting.

Boys and families generally interact more outdoors.

Each pack should encourage their families to participate in the

first and/or second Cub Scout Family Camps at either Sand

Hill Scout Reservation or Camp Soule.

Why? Camping - being outdoors - with family and pack is a

major desire of Scouting families and many of the activities

they participate in at a Council camp are not authorized at

Pack events.

If you have an idea that you want to include in your Pack Join Scouting Night, or help that you

need, please ask your District Membership team, or your Unit Commissioner,

or your District Executive now.

Unit Leaders:

Please plan to turn in Youth applica-tions to Council each week during Au-gust and September, even into Octo-ber.

Why?

National Council looks at our registra-tion numbers not once at the end of each month, but at least 3 times each month. We need to show National Council that we are working consis-tently to improve our Membership so that we receive a Regular Charter in 2015.

~Thank you in advance!

Think outside the old box.

Let’s have fun!
