What does Romantic Mean?
Romantic- writing that explored more psychological and mysterious parts of human nature.
Fascination with youth and innocence.Associated with idealism. That things
can be better, fairer and healthier.Ability to adapt to change.

Laissez Faire- “let people do as they please”. The rich grew richer and the poor grew poorer. It had social and economical impact.

Mood

An author’s tone can be revealed through choice of words and details.

About the Author
Tu Fu (712-770)He was born an aristocrat.At age 24, he took a test to become an
advisor for the emperor but failed the writing exams in prose and poetry. (What form of irony is this?).
He lived a uneventful life moving in and out of various government positions.

He passed the writing tests much later in life but the failure stayed with him.
Lead a life of comfort until the rebellion that ended the emperor's rule.
After the rebellion, Tu Fu lived a life of hardship and poor health.
He wandered through life looking for work. He died in 770 on a houseboat.
The Impact of Tu Fu
He was sensitive to people’s suffering.He was the first Chinese poet of his time
to write about social concerns.His style of writing has influenced
Chinese poets.He is considered the poet’s poet.

Listen to the song.

Example: The song’s tone is peaceful. The musician uses a slow tempo throughout the song. This shows that he is not in a rush, anxious or angry. He also plays instruments like the piano, flute and harp. These instruments create a peaceful tone.
