OLD OLYMPIC GAMES.

THE GAMES AND RELIGION

•The Olympic Games were linked to the religious festivals of the cult of Zeus.•To show the physical qualities of young people.

PARTICIPANTS.• All free male Greek citizens

were entitled to participate in the ancient Olympic Games.

• Married women were not allowed to participate in, or to watch, the ancient Olympic Games.

• Unmarried women could attend the competition.

• The priestess of Demeter was given a privileged position next to the Stadium altar.

ACTIVITIES AND LENGHT

Running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration and equestrian events.

Were initially a one-day event until 684 BC, when they were extended to three days. In the 5th century B.C., the Games were extended again to cover five days.

• He was born in 1863 in Paris, France.

• He went to University and studied pedagogy .

• He travelled to USA.• His idea was not

recognised in France.

• He died in Ginebra on the 2 of September in 1937.
