Curriculum, Admission Requirements and Program InformationThe National Council on Preservation Education has extended full membership to the Ursuline College Graduate Program in Historic Preservation since the program’s inception in 2004 for fully meeting its standards for preservation education degrees. Historic Preservation at Ursuline prepares tomorrow’s leaders to make sustainable and unique contributions to their world by preserving cultural memory and its lessons.

Historic Preservation is one of the fastest growing fields within Public History today. Historic Preservationists build a legacy for themselves and their community through a wide variety of professional opportunities that include:• National Park Service• state preservation and transportation departments• local government planning and landmark commissions• historic sites and parks• heritage corridors• preservation and conservation organizations• architectural and design firms• revitalization projects• environmental consulting agencies

Admission RequiRements

•Abachelor’sdegreefromanaccreditedinstitution.•Evidenceofabilitytocompletegraduatecourseworkasindicatedbyan undergraduategradepointaverageof3.0shownontheapplicant’stranscript. TheGraduateRecordExamination(GRE)mayberequiredofstudentswhose undergraduateGPAislessthan3.0.•ApplicationforAdmissionand$25.00applicationfee.•Officialtranscriptsforallundergraduateandgraduatecourseworksentdirectlyto theOfficeofGraduateAdmission.•Threelettersofrecommendationwrittenbyappropriateprofessionals(confidential recommendationformrequired).•Writingsamplethatisthesoleworkoftheapplicant.•CompletionofaninterviewwiththeDirectoroftheGraduateProgramin HistoricPreservation.

Applicationmaterialsareacceptedcontinuouslybutpacketsshouldbecompletedandsubmittedforconsiderationatleastfourweekspriortothebeginningofthesemester.

*Students may test out of the Drafting/AutoCAD requirements if they can demonstrate adequate manual drafting and AutoCAD skills.

Studentsadmittedwithoutthesetwoprerequisitesarerequiredtocompletetheseindependentlyoftheirdegreeprogramwithintheirfirstyearafterentrance.Prerequisitesdonotcounttowardsthe42credithoursneededtoearntheMastersdegree.ThesecoursesareofferedatUrsulinebutmayalsobetakenatotheraccreditedinstitutions.

TwoprimarycurriculumpathsleadtoUrsuline’sMasterofArtsinHistoricPreservation.1.Traditional Master of Arts in Historic Preservation42Graduatecredithoursarerequiredasindicatedbelow.2.Bridge 5-Year Bachelor of Arts AND Master of Arts in Historic Preservation UndergraduatestudentsmajoringinHistoricPreservationmayapplytothe‘Bridge’programintheirjunioryearandwillbeacceptediftheymeetthecriteriaforadmissiontotheSchoolofGraduateStudies.Thesestudentswilltakethe18credithoursofBridgecoursesaspartoftheirundergraduatedegree.Anadditional9credithoursofFoundationcoursesand15credithoursofCapstonecourseswillberequiredforgraduationwithaMasters.•UndergraduateMajorcourses–39credithours•Undergraduate/GraduateBridgecourses–18credithours
