TheJordanDownsCommunityPlayProject-2019CornerstoneTheaterCompanymakesnewplayswithandaboutcommunities.We’vebeendoingthisformorethan30years,withcommunitiesthroughoutLosAngeles*andacrossthecountry.Wegettoknowacommunity,learnfromthepeoplewemeetwhoadviseusalongtheway.Wespendtimeinthecommunityandhearpeople’sstories,thenwriteanewplaythatreflectsthelivesandexperiencesofthecommunity.Wecastmostlycommunitymemberstoperformwithafewofourcompanyactors.Welovetoincludepeopleonstagethataren’tusuallytheaterartists.Andweperformourplayssothattheyareaccessibletothecommunity.Thebestplaysaretheoneswherepeoplewhodon’tknowthecommunitysitside-by-sidewithresidentsintheaudience.TicketsarePay-What-You-Can.CornerstoneisexploringthechangeshappeningattheJordanDowns.We’vepartneredwiththeResidentAdvisoryCommitteeandledworkshopsandconversationsatthecommunitycenter,JordanHighSchoolandotherplacesinWatts.Weareproducingaplay&festivaltomarkhowchangesintheneighborhoodareimpactingresidents’livesandtocelebratethehistoryofthisuniqueLosAngelescommunity.ProjectTimeline:Research&GettingtoKnowtheJordanDowns StartedJune2017Auditions March27–31,2019Rehearsals April9–May16,2019Performances May17–19and22–26,2019
