Mission Statement
12
The Global Atlas facilitates access to renewable resource data, analysis and
methods in order to accelerate the initiation and development of a broader range
of renewable energy projects.
• Provide free resource data for all• Shorten the project life cycle• Optimize development and cut costs
Support SDGgoals

What is the Global Atlas?
13
The Global Atlas is a suite of services.
Online GIS platform for viewing renewable
resource data
Tools for analysis Studies and analyses on renewable energy
resources
Publishing and hosting data
Training and access to expertise
Access to renewable energy resource data
Who Uses the Global Atlas?
14
Policymakers andGovernments
Developers andbusiness leaders
City and energy planners & land administrators
Modelers and analysts

When is the Global Atlas used?
15
Bankable data is needed here. The Global Atlas can
help connect developers with sources of this
data.
Global Atlas maps can help
identify the best general areas
for project siting.
Tools and data support pre-
screening and pre-feasibility analyses
by estimating project output and
helping attract investors.
Better resource data reduces risk over the life of the project, increases valuation and speeds up the process.
Prospecting opportunity

Site selection &
prescreening
Feasibility analysis
Design and development
FinancingConstruction & Operation
Investors can use estimated outputs and resource maps
to cross-check developer proposals.
How the Global Atlas Works
16
What you see What is happening Who’s making it happen
Over 2000 datasets available!
Partner Countries
17
Most of the data in the Global Atlas is modelled, not directly measured.
Examples:
In many of the datasets in the Global Atlas, the data is validated with actual measurements. More info can be found under
“Layer Info” in the Global Atlas.
DTU Global Wind Atlas
• Large-scale weather data (~50 km
resolution) is combined with land
topography to estimate wind speeds for
each 1 km square.
Helioclim Solar Map
• Satellite imagery is used to compute solar
irradiation.
