From the Principal’s desk…
This week brings us halfway through the term.
Before we know it, it will be Easter!
Students who have their Learners licence will
once again have the opportunity to have
driving lessons with Janene Richards this
year. Lessons only cost the students $5 and
each one-hour lesson counts as three hours in
their logbook. The feedback from students has
been extremely positive and there has been a
high success rate for students getting their
Provisional licence on their first attempt after
lessons with Janene. Students must return
their permission note before they can
participate.
It’s a busy time for sport, particularly in
primary. Darcy Cattle, Evie Henley and Lila
Henley took part in the Lower Lachlan PSSA
Tennis Trials on Monday. All three students
were successful in gaining a spot to trial for the
Western Area PSSA team in Parkes next
Wednesday.
On Tuesday, our PSSA AFL team competed at
the West Wyalong Gala day. This year we had
a young team, with some of our girls jumping
in to help make the team. They won one game
and lost three but showed incredible spirit and
never gave up. We must also thank those
students from Tullibigeal Central School who
joined our team. Congratulations to Tyler
Crofts, Darcy Cattle and Dustin Bryant who
were selected to trial for the Western PSSA
AFL team.
UCS have a mobile device policy that covers all
students in K-12. Students in Years 7-12 are
reminded that they are not to have their
mobile phones out in class unless instructed by
their teacher. They are able to have them out
during the second half of lunch. Parents are
reminded that all messages to and from
students should go through the front office.
West Wyalong High School have invited our
Year 5-8 students to a STEAM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Art and
Mathematics) challenge day on the last day of
Term 1. To give our students the opportunity
to attend, we have made the decision to move
our Easter Hat Parade Assembly to
Wednesday 8th April. Our Cross Country will
also be held on Wednesday, before the
assembly.
Parent/Teacher meetings will be held on
Monday 6th April. Please contact the front
office to make an appointment with your
child’s teacher/s. We hope to see an increase
in attendance this year, as the numbers have
been disappointing in previous years. This is
your opportunity to discuss your child’s
progress and ask any questions you may have
about their learning.
Until next week,
Terrie Payne

SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
PBL
The Primary AFL team travelled to West Wyalong on Tuesday 3rd March to compete in the AFL Gala day against West Wyalong and Lake Cargelligo. This day is the start of the AFL trial system for the Western AFL team. Ungarie had to play West Wyalong Public first, and after a hard-fought game, our side went down by a goal. The second game was against Lake, which Ungarie won by 2 points. Our team had a break while West Wyalong and Lake played their match, which West Wyalong won easily. In years past, the organisers play a possibles/probables match at this stage, but this year they decided to play another round of matches! So Ungarie (who were quite tired by this stage) had to get back out there to play West Wyalong again. Unfortunately due to no subs (West Wyalong had 6, Lake had 4), Ungarie faded away in the next two matches against West Wyalong and Lake. They had no gas left in the tank, and as hard as they tried, got over-run by fresher opponents. After the second round of matches were played, a possibles/probables game occurred, where Tyler, Dustin and Darcy all went well and were invited to go to Parkes to trial for the Western team on March 16. Thanks go to the 3 Tullibigeal Central boys who helped us out, as well as the 4 Ungarie girls who all played well, without them we wouldn't have had enough players for a side.
