THE GROVER NEWS
“FOR THE GROVE FAMILY, BY THE GROVE FAMILY”
Phew, these months are flying by. Seems like last week that I was working on the newsletter. What’s the old saying “time flies when you’re having fun” and we do have a good time here at the Grove. We just keep seeing homes coming in and being set up in Phase II. Also we have one big one in the front that I would love to see after construction is finished. A lot of new people are moving in and some of the phase I are moving into phase II. A lot of moving in and around. Some of our activities have stopped for the summer but will resume in the fall. Those classes stopping are: Wii Bowling, Line Dancing, Ceramics, and Movie Night. But the good news is that the pool is open and water aerobics is starting with Patricia L overseeing this event. See more further in newsletter. It’s sad to see our snowbirds leaving but we have a few snowbirds who are permanent now. A lot of the festivals around the area have started with the hot air balloon festival coming up. Just had the Sausage, Strawberry, & Crawfish which a lot of the Groves went too and really enjoyed themselves. We will be having our Memorial Day event for this month, so please remember our veterans, shake an active member’s hand and say Thank You for your service and sacrifice. Althia Fox, Editor

NEW NEWS by Wally R
I exhibited 11 pieces of work for the month of March at a local library. And will be moving down this summer
~Unframed~ by Wally
I developed an interest in watercolor painting while taking my last humanities class in 1999 at the College for Lifelong
Learning, now Granite State College. I discovered I enjoyed painting, it brings me a sense of joy and playfulness that is
often put aside as we grow up. I painted on my own but started to make significant growth while taking fall and
winter courses from Kevin Dadoly. He became my mentor and I am grateful for the coaching, cajoling and challenges
he presents to me.
As I developed my skills under Kevin’s tutelage I started studying eastern art particularly Chinese art while reading
the Three Perfections, which in Chinese culture is comprised of art, poetry and calligraphy. The simplicity of the
compositions allowed me to look carefully at art not just with my eyes but with my heart. The openness of Chinese
art feeds my spirit and provides me with a permission to wonder. I love applying new ideas and concepts into
practice. Designing, arranging organizing work is often exhausting and exhilarating so I often listen to John Lee
Hooker to fuel creativity. The simplicity and open space of eastern style composition relates directly to my reading of
Henry David Thoreau’s works and views of simplifying your own life through deliberate thought and action.
Through the mentorship I have with Kevin and my own sense of inquiry, I developed my own style of composition in
avian and marine art through simplicity of subject and comprehensive use of wet to wet technique, using clear water
and then copious amounts of pigment. My interest in marine mammals is related to my new home on the Gulf of
Mexico. My goal is to push my boundaries with the use of color to convey expression, as I did with the Blue Marlin,
roosting crows or birds on a wire. I hope my work provides you some joy or allows you to take some solace in the
beauty of the natural world as it does for me.
Note: If anyone else would like to post something about their talent and pictures, please contact me. Beautiful pictures Wally, didn’t know you were so talented.

DRONE NEWS
DRONING AROUND THE GROVE
By Diana
You may have seen Diana flying her drone at the Grove. She has posted several pictures
on Facebook of the Grove from about 100 ft. above. All Grover’s can rest assured that
Diana is a safe and competent pilot/drone operator. She has years of experience
piloting small airplanes and knows all the FAA rules. If anyone has any questions or
wants to know more about the new hobby of drone flying/photography, you can contact
her by e-mail at diana5cents@gmail.com Or if you see her around stop and say hi.
These are some great pictures, so thanks Diana for taking them.

Swimming Pool
HOG ROAST
A great crowd gathered, some in the clubhouse, but the majority sat under the trees and
around the pool, for the tasty roasted butts, slaw, baked beans and all the other dishes
that were brought. Everyone had a great time and the weather was beautiful. As I was
getting ready to leave I unfortunately did not attend and I didn’t take any pictures but
Patty graciously sent some to me. We did go up and purchase a plate to eat. The food
was delicious. Thanks to the cooking team who had to get up early and start cooking.
Also, to everyone who helped to put this on.
YARD SALE
We had approximately 20 lots signed up to participate in the 30 Apr (Sat/8-3) Yard Sale. .We had
some good advertising on the radio, posted signs in the surrounding area, and flyers at area locations.
Unfortunately we did not meet the deadline to have an ad in the MULLET. Our two new banners near the
front entrance were wonderful. In addition, there was a sign posted the morning of the sale asking visitors to
pick up a community map at the clubhouse.
This map marked the location of each yard sale (based on the sign up roster in the clubhouse). The map will
note to look for a balloon at those locations. We asked that each yard sale place a balloon at the end of their
driveway
The weather was a beautiful overcast and cool day and a lot of traffic was seen all over the Grove. Everyone
was selling quite a lot and a lot of the residents were riding/walking around to find bargains also.
On Saturday if you smelled grilling hot dogs and wanted a delicious lunch, you had to visit the clubhouse
and purchase a Grover-Grilling Team hot dog, chip and drink meal! Also, Bobbie and Joyce were going
around and selling them from their golf cark. Great job girls. We also heard they ran out of dogs. The profits
from the Grilling Teams’ sale go to our own Grover fund.
LIBRARY NEWS
Do you have a favorite author? Is it Stuart Woods, C.J. Box, Clive
Cussler, or does your tastes take you to the many romance novels? We have
them too. Debbie McComber, Fern Michaels, Belva Plain, Danielle Steel,
occupying our shelves with several other well known writers.
One of our Grover’s donated a large collection of Robin Carr novels
for her fans. Of course, we are very grateful for that.
For those of you interested in history we have several books to keep us
informed. Maybe you haven’t seen them because they hide in plain site on
the white shelves just inside the door. Since we are limited on space I do
have several of them in storage. So if you have a particular book in mind,
please just ask me about it and I will search for it or just leave me a note in
the library.
Once again I would like to thank all those that so generously donate to
our library.
Happy reading to all.

Twelve ladies were able to decorate a clay pot and saucer with different paint techniques using sea sponge, flower or beach theme sponges. Their creativity is seen in the pictures.
CRAFT FOR APRIL 2016
MEN’S BREAKFAST AND LUNCHEON Curt Shipley & Mike Hamm Breakfast Every other Thursday at 7:45 a.m. We went to Tacky-Jacks of Gulf Shores, across from LULU's. Eleven wet souls showed up. Man...It..Was down pouring, but, it didn't stop us from going anyway. We had a wonderful waitress and the food was enjoyed by all. Poor Dave Steele, who ordered one pancake. When it arrived, it was so big it draped over his entire plate. I must admit we were all surprised, he ate almost all of it. Their menu was quite extensive, and everyone was satisfied. On the 28th 8 men went to have breakfast at IHOP in Foley. As usual the food is very good and they have some great pancakes.
Luncheon 2nd Tuesday at 11:10 a.m. The men's luncheon was held Wed., April 12th, at Fish River Grill 2, which is located behind Walgreens and adjacent to Subway. I could not attend, as I had a Dr.'s appointment that time of day. Those who went really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Their specialty was the Reuben sandwich and their famous Swamp Soup. This month our luncheon will be at Island Wings in Gulf Shores on Hwy 59.
. LADIES LUNCHEON Second Tuesday meet in Clubhouse at 11 a.m. By Jeanne Pingleton
We went to Jesses's for lunch in April. We had a nice crowd. The food and service was great. We had two new ladies that came to lunch. We had a few ladies cancel because of illness. Hope everyone is feeling better now and is able to join us next month at Ivie's in Robertsdale. If any of the new ladies haven't joined us for lunch, sign up and join us for a good time out for lunch. I really enjoy being with the ladies, and I hope our group gets bigger. Give something to your friends, A SMILE. Thank you all for joining us and look forward to seeing you next month. God Bless. Jeanne
* NOTES*
SIGNUP SHEETS
The signup sheet for different events is very important to whoever is doing it. It tells them about how much food, arrangements, items, etc. to prepare for that event. .So please if you are planning on attending an event, please sign up and how many will be in your party.
RECYCLE CAN
There is a recycle can located between clubhouse and pool for aluminum only, if anyone would like to recycle. Please have your cans rinsed out before placing in can. Thanks to everyone who recycles.
DONATION BASKET At the Volunteer meeting the question of the donation basket was brought up. The $1-$2 donation is not sufficient to cover the cost. A vote of a more reasonable amount of $5 would be sufficient. (if you go out to eat you will spend more than $5 a person to eat). If more than $5 would be needed for a special event, it would be posted prior to the event. As most of you know the cost of food has increased. We do shop around and try to get the most for the money. On the special occasions (i.e.: trivia, breakfast, pizza, etc.) that has food the donation basket is set out. This money is to cover the cost of the food that is prepared and to provide the money for future events, supplies, & repairs for you. Just to clarify for some, your money for your lot rent does not cover the events expense. So please make a donation when you eat. Thank you.
LAWNS MOWED EVERY TUESDAY
The warmer weather and rain has gotten the grass to be green and growing faster, so the mowers are back on Tuesdays. So please pick up around your yard (if it’s in the way of the movers) if you see or hear them.
GARBAGE PICK-UP Every Monday Afternoon If possible please put your can and/or trash out on Monday. We have a lot of potential lookers driving thru on week-ends and it would look more presentable if they didn’t see the trash by the curb. Please have you garbage can ready for pick-up at side of driveway. Thank you.
GATES FRONT GATE CLOSES AT 5:30 PM AND RE-OPENS AT 8:00 AM. Note: New hour of gate opening is 8:00 am. A remote is available at the office if you would like to purchase one. The back gate will be closed since the construction workers are through working in back. Occasionally you will see it open if we have trailers coming in.
THE GROVE RESIDENTS DIRECTORY
Of the 150 copies purchased by Grove funds, 132 copies were sold at $3.00 each and 1 copy was donated to the Clubhouse Bulletin Board. The remaining 18 copies are to be sold (at cost) to the Grove Management Office. Any residents desiring a copy of the 2016 directory should see the Office.
PET OWNERS
PLEASE, PLEASE pick up your pets waste (large & small) and discard no matter where. We are seeing and told of several pet’s waste on the back trail and around people’s yard (large dog). No one wants to step in it or run over it. The plastic bags can be purchased at the Dollar Tree for $1 for 3-4 rolls or use grocery bags. We all thank you. Note: As some of you may have noticed some construction at the back of the lake as been going on. A new doggie park is being constructed so our friends can go for a walk without the leash and meet other dogs. I’ve heard that it may be separated for the larger and smaller dogs because we don’t want anyone hurt by accident. You will still be responsible for picking up after your pet. Don’t know when it will be open. GOLFERS
