A = All About Me

• B.A. in Elementary Education from ASU• Master’s of Education in Counseling • 26th year teaching• Married to Kevin for 22 years• 3 children Max who is 19 years old, Annika

who is 16 years old, and Nick who is 13• 3 furry children – Tasha the Samoyed,

Peaches the Ginger Cat, and Elf the Rabbit

B = Behavior• Listen to the speaker

& participate in activities.

• Make good use of your time.

• Use self-control with talking.

• Be courteous and respectful to others.

• Finish assignments on time.

• Use good behavior at specials & lunchtime

C = Consequences1. Warning2. Warning and the

student pins down on the chart.

3. Loss recess4. Call home5. Office visit6. *If the infraction is

severe a ticket can be given which will result in an after school detention.

E = “E” Handwriting

Students will be graded on their spelling tests &

journals for handwriting. “E”

Handwriting means that your child used

spaces between words, their words are

readable, & their letters stayed between

the lines.

D = Daily Homework Folder*Folder that “lives” in your child’s backpack. *It will contain the behavior notice in one pocket, math fact in a clear plastic sheet clipped in the middle, reading, writing, and spelling homework for the week in the other pocket.

F = First Grade Day8:10-8:30 – Morning Work8:30-10:00 – Literacy Block10:00-10:10 – Snack10:15-10:30 – Morning Recess10:35-11:10 – Writing & Grammar11:15-11:55 – Lunch12:00-12:20 – Calendar12:20-1:20 – Math Block1:25-1:35 – Bathroom Break1:40-2:10 – Specials2:15-2:30 – Read Aloud & Integrated Studies2:30-2:40 – Clean-Up2:40 - Dismissal

G = Grading• Assessments

– Language Arts: Weekly – skills test

– Math: Bi-weekly – unit assessment & timed math facts

– Reading: Weekly – comprehension test

– Spelling: Weekly – 10 spelling words, handwriting, & dictation sentence

Due at the end of each week:

1. Practice spelling words

2. Complete one page of the Homework Packet nightly

3. Read 15-20 minutes 5 nights per week (fill in the reading log)

4. Study Math Fact nightly

5. Study the high frequency words for the week

M = Monthly Behavior Incentive• The class earns a pom-pom in the

bucket for good overall behavior.• There will be a special treat or

project at the end of each month if the goal is met

• The class will decide what the incentive is

• The class will decide how they will earn the worms

N = Newsletter• Sent home the last day of each week• Contains important class and academic information

P = Papers to Sign & Return• There will be a packet of papers that will need to be signed &

returned ASAP• Student Handbook Code of Conduct, Media Release, Transportation

Form, Emergency Card, & Principal’s Letter of Welcome

O = Open Door Policy• Email – best and most efficient way to communicate with me

during the school day• Phone – doesn’t ring in classroom during school hours• Written – use Daily Folder to send in notes/money/forms

R = ReadingStudents are required to read 15-20 minutes, 5 nights per week.

Please initial their reading calendar for the days read to complete their homework.

• Reasoning about and composing/decomposing (making/breaking apart) geometric shapes.
