Analytical Tools and Common Petroleum Workflows

17

Intersect

ArcToolbox> Analysis Tools > Overlay >

Combines polygon features from different layers.

Play sweet-spot calculations.

18

Create Thiessen Polygons

ArcToolbox> Analysis Tools > Proximity >

Creates polygons around points so that every place within that polygon is closest to the point within that polygon.

Use it to identify locations for injection wells.

19

Add Geometry Attributes

Adds a variety of spatial information to each feature’s attribute record.

Easy access to a feature’s geographic components. Use Make XY from table.

Tools > Data Management Tools > Features >

20

Create Cartographic Partitions

ArcToolbox> Cartography Tools > Generalization >

Creates a polygon feature class of variable sized features based on other features.

Use it to create a variable index layer for data driven pages.

21

Polygon Neighbors

Tools > Analysis Tools > Proximity >

Creates a table showing all the adjoining polygons for each polygon.

Compare lease production for each lease to the average production to adjacent leases.

22

Aggregate Polygons

ArcToolbox> Cartography Tools > Generalization >

Creates a new polygon feature class generalizing features in an area into one shape.

Use to mask actual lease holdings in shared information.

23

Feature Compare

Tools > Data Management Tools > Data Comparison >

Check if two feature classes are identical.

24

GeoTagged Photos To Points

ArcToolbox> Data Management Tools > Photos >

Creates a point feature class of geo-tagged photo locations from a folder.

Photos are stored as Attachments to the point features.

Create a layer of facility photos from cell-phone pictures.

Turn photos into a story map.

25

Create Fishnet

Tools > Data Management Tools > Feature Class >

Creates a regular grid of polygons with optional center points.

Use to create generic well spacing grid for lease well planning.

26

Buffer

ArcToolbox> Analysis Tools > Proximity >

Creates polygons around features at specific distances.

27

Feature Class to Feature Class

ArcToolbox> Conversion Tools > To Geodatabase >

Copies a feature class but also allows for reformatting of the attribute columns.

Used to reorganize the attribute table for a feature class.
