(SCCFA)SURVEY OF DIVERS WHO HARVEST

PARROTFISH

Parrotfish harvest of approx. 130lbs. in a 150qt. cooler. This depends on how much ice is used, which is dependent on the ambient temperature that day. Parrotfish is very susceptible to spoilage if not iced properly, if it’s to hot they are spread

out in more coolers

Fishers surveyed state that the 10” FL is favored by restaurants . The fish on top, because of it’s size is sold for home consumption,

and is also difficult to sell

Fishers claim these are the same species, female below turns to male above. They identify the sex by change of color. Needs to be

validated

This species does not sell very well because of it’s size and meaty flesh, it is mostly used for Kallaloo dishes

These two species are the only ones caught by hook and line and only with the use of hermit crab as bait. Never commercially harvested by hook and line. They are identified by their sharp

pointed teeth, unlike other parrotfish with rounded teeth
