and create your own astronomical data(did I tell you that you can become a professional astronomer?)curator@planetarium-sarawak.org
Sepintas lalu - 2D kepada 3DThe x and y co-ordinates you have measured are relative to the top left hand corner (providing the image is the right way up). You will have to recalculate the x and y values relative to the centre of the Sun: make the co-ordinates of the centre of the Sun (0,0).
We translate the motion we observe in 2 dimensions to motion on a sphere in terms of r, the distance from the center of the sphere, and two angles:, the angle from north to south, and , the angle from east to west. We can find and from our x and y measurements by using the following two formulae (R is the radius of the whole Sun):
Mapping from 2D to 3D
AnalysisReview their data to make sure that the numbers match the drawingsNext determine how many degrees of latitude the sunspot moved each dayTo get the average:Determine total degrees of changeAdd this numberDivide by how many daysDo all teams agree?Do the sunspot move at the same rate?Did they change shape?
ConclusionThey seems to be moving 12 degrees per dayHow long does it take to make a complete rotation 350 degrees?Error: Earth is moving around the sun at same direction 1 degree per day, so we add 1 degree to the apparent movement
CongratulationAt the MIDDLE it takes around 27 days for the sun to rotateBut at the POLES it takes 35 days to complete
