Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it!

How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her

wings, and you were not willing!

express their love and concern as we embrace each other.

Call to WorshipL: O God, who is here,

in this place, in our midst; ALL: Empower us to praise you,

not with words and actions which come from outside of us, but from within us;

L: Dwell in us more fully that we may sing to you with all our being;

ALL: Fill us with a sense of your joy, that we might actually delight in your worship;

L: Focus us upon your self-giving Love, which is above every love we have ever

known, the source of all.        ALL: O God, who is here – in this place, now – in our midst; Make your love real here and now,

through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Opening Hymn:

Behold What Manner of Love

Behold what manner of love the father has given unto us

Behold what manner of love the father has given unto us

That we should be called the children of God

That we should be called the children of God

Prayer of Confession Together we confess the reality of sin in personal and common life:

ALL: Loving God, we enter your presenceconfessing the things we try to conceal from you and the things we try to conceal from others.

We confess the heartbreak, worry, and sorrow we have caused that make it difficult for others to forgive us; the times we have made it easy for others to do wrong; the harm we have done that makes it hard for us to forgive ourselves.

Lord have mercy and forgive us through Christ. Amen.

Assurance of PardonHaving confessed our sin, we remember God’s promises of redemption:

L: Hear the Good News!The mercy of the Lord

is from everlasting to everlasting.Know it! Believe it! Live it!

You are forgiven, loved and freedthrough the life, death and

resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

to us today.  Amen.

Luke 13:31-35

At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, "Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you."

Jesus said to them, "Go and tell that fox for me, 'Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.'

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'"

This is the word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.
