Bright Futures is a workforce focused program.

Our goal is to help students, GED recipients

and honorably discharged Veterans receive

the education they need to earn a successful

career in Weld County.

What is Bright

Futures?

How do I receive a Bright Future grant?

Step One: Apply before the DEADLINE!

June 30th

Step Two: Complete requirements

• Must be a resident of Weld County for 2 of your 4 years

• of High school—one being your senior year

• 16 hours of community service within Weld County

• Complete and upload FAFSA or alternative application

• One time acknowledgment of attending the mandatory meeting

Step Three: Receive grant

Step Four: Stay connected and keep your profile updated.

• YOU are responsible when it comes to staying updated with Bright Futures news and your

account. We do not notify students that an application is not complete.

What you need to know…

The Bright Futures grant is UP TO $2,000 per year.

• The grant is last dollar in. This means that all scholarships, grants and “free monies” will be applied to your student account first. Bright Futures can ONLY be applied to tuition and mandatory fees.

Examples:

• Ben’s tuition & mandatory fees are $4,000. Ben receives a $500 scholarship from a local

rotary. He received $1,000 from the PELL grant. Ben is then eligible for $1,000 in a Bright

Futures grant.

• Carrie’s tuition & mandatory fees are $4,000. Carrie receives $2,000 from the PELL grant and

$1,000 scholarship from the university and $1,000 from a local rotary. Carrie is NOT eligible

that semester to receive Bright Future funds as her tuition & fees are fully paid for.

Bright Futures grants can only be used in Colorado or bordering states. That

includes Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Utah.

Go to

● Click on the eScholarship Portal tab

Step One: Create Online Account

Click on “I’m A New Student” highlighted label.

Step One: Create Online Account

Complete “Create Your Weld County Bright

Futures Student Account.”

● Birth date and state assigned student identifier

data (SASID) data must match information

provided by your high school

● Create password.

● Do NOT use your school email - Once you

graduate it will be shut-down.

● Complete and click “Create Account” this will

take student to the portal & application.

● After you create your account you will receive

an email with your user ID. You will need this ID

to log-in, check your account status, and

complete program requirements.

Step Two: Application

● You must complete your Scholarship Application to continue.

● Blanks will automatically fill with the information the high school

has provided.

● Review the information and fill it out to the best of your ability.

You can log back in to complete the application before

submission.

● All fields with a * must have a response to complete the

application.

● Please confirm phone, email and text information. DO NOT

use your high school email.

Step Two: Application

● Review information for accuracy and make any necessary

corrections.

● Account Confirmation – Read and acknowledge your

understanding of programs requirements.

● Parent must sign in if student is under 18 years● If you are over 18 and do not wish to add a guardian, enter your information again.

● Submit will take student to their account.

Step Three: Enrollment

Same deadline as application! JUNE 30th!

● In your Bright Futures account, click on “My Colleges”.

● Click Add School—Be sure to find the exact match.

● Click the enrolled box and choose the semester & year based on a school year

calendar.○ Example: September 2020 you would be attending fall 2020/2021 school year. ○ Example: January 2021 you would be attending spring 2020/2021 school year.

● Click save

● Must complete enrollment information so Bright Futures can distribute grant

money.

Step Four: Mandatory Meeting

● Select Programs

● Click Add Program

● Select Mandatory Meeting

● Enter date of meeting or date online presentation viewed

Step Five: Community Service

● Select Programs

● Click Add Program

● Select Community Service

● Select where community service was completed under

subprogram. If your organization is not listed, email the name,

address and web address to our office for review. We will add the

organization if it meets program requirements. Enter the dates

community service was completed and the number of hours.

Step Six: FAFSA

● Enter FAFSA as the title, select “Student Aid Report” as the

document type, enter school year (of anticipated grant funds),

and upload document.

● FAFSA opens October 1st. The process does take some time,

so please do not wait until the Bright Futures deadline to start

your FAFSA.

● If you need assistance completing your FAFSA, call

1.800.4FEDAID

What are the grant timeframes for students?

● Application deadline - no grace period

○ June 30th

● Students must begin within two years of graduation and

end within six years.

Requirements While in College● Log-in and Update your Account each Semester – STAY Informed on the status of your

Bright Futures Account.

● Stay enrolled at a Title IV accredited higher education institution or certified training program

in the required geographic region (Colorado or bordering state).

● Update enrollment in ‘My Colleges’ if transferring

● Update your Community Service Hours

● Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA (average)○ If student’s cumulative GPA drops below 2.0 they are eligible for grant funds for one more

semester as they work to bring the GPA up to meet the required cumulative of 2.0. If GPA is not brought up to meet the requirement and a student has two consecutive semesters below 2.0 they are no longer eligible for Bright Futures funds.

● Each semester you are responsible for providing information and updates at

www.brightfuturesco.com. Many schools provide this so please visit our website for the list of

schools that do. If your school is on the list, DO NOT upload documents.○ Upload unofficial transcript with grades and credit hour information. Document must have students name printed on it.

Future Login Information

Step 1. Visit www.brightfuturesco.com and click eScholarship

Step 2. Enter student User ID and Password - created during the

application process.

● If you cannot remember your email and password, please click

forgot password or username. With continued issues, contact

Bright Futures.

● To prevent your Bright Futures Grant emails from going to

“Junk Mail” add “Noreply@escholorships.com” to your email

list.
