Key Times We Lose Students

• Fall to Spring (freshman year)

• Fall to Fall (freshman to sophomore year)

• Pre-Graduation (beyond sophomore year)

Reasons We Lose Students

•Academic•Personal•Financial•Social

How Can I Help Retain Students?

Classroom performance problems are early indicators of larger problems.

You are in the best position to alert others when performance problems arise.

How Student Alerts Work

• Instructor enters alert in myUK portal

• System sends email to key parties

• Key parties work to address difficulty

• Instructor receives result feedback

Alert Types: Academic

• Missed classes • Habitually late (10+ minutes, regularly)• Homework not submitted• Homework quality poor• Poor performance on tests or quizzes

Alert Types: Behavioral

• Disruptive behavior• Act which threatens safety• Harassment• Health risk

Alert Types: Behavioral

• Damage to property• Medical attention• Mental health

Alert Types: Other

• For anything not covered by an existing alert type

When To Submit An Alert• Send an alert whenever you feel it is

appropriate.

• Alert information is useful at all points in the semester.

• Prompt intervention is the key.

Who Receives Your Alert

• Academic: In most cases, student and academic advisor

• Behavioral: Students of Concern team (Dean of Students office)

• Other: Determined case by case

After Alert Submission• Screen message confirms alert sent• Student email: Contact advisor or

instructor• Advisor email: Contact this student• Discussion with student (advisor or

instructor)• Advisor feedback entered

How To Submit A Student Alert

Log On To myUK

Faculty Services Tab

Select Alert Type(s)

“Alert Sent” Message

Confirmation message will appear when alert

is submitted.
