Standard Issue was created by Hyden Yoo to show appreciation for the armed

forces around the world. Regardless of the political agenda of each battle, the

military proudly wore their country’s uniforms and with their blood, sweat, and

tears, gave each of the garments its character. These uniforms have been well

documented through paintings, photos, and film. Hyden Yoo draws inspiration

from these historical references, and translates them into something more modern

and fashionable for the typical civilian.

I thought all the wilderness of America was in the West till the Ghost of the

Susquehanna showed me different. No, there is a wilderness in the East; it’s

the same wilderness Ben Franklin plodded in the oxcart days when he was a

postmaster, the same as it was when George Washington was a wildbuck Indian-

fighter, when Daniel Boone told stories by Pennsylvania lamps and promised

to find the Gap, when Bradford build his road and men whooped her up in log

I want to be like him. He’s never hung-up, he goes every direction, he lets it all out,

he knows time, he has nothing to do but rock back and forth. Man, he’s the end!

You see, if you go like him all the time you’ll finally get it.

- Jack Kerouac, On The Road

He halted in the wind, and -- what was that

Far in the maples, pale, but not a ghost?

He stood there bringing March against his thought,

And yet too ready to believe the most.

“Oh, that’s the Paradise-in-bloom,” I said;

And truly it was fair enough for flowers

had we but in us to assume in march

Such white luxuriance of May for ours.

We stood a moment so in a strange world,

Myself as one his own pretense deceives;

And then I said the truth (and we moved on).

We fumed and screamed in our mountain nook, mad drunken Americans in the

mighty land. We were on the roof of America and all we could do was yell, I guess--

across the night...
