My name is Joseph Steger and I am studying to be a priest for a
Missionary Movement of the Catholic Church called Jesus Youth. I
first felt the call to be a missionary when I was 8 or 9 years old
and learned about the life of Mother Teresa. As a child she
impressed me so much, I thought that I wanted to live like her. As
I grew older though I began to have dreams of getting married and
having a family. Throughout high school I worked on farms and by
the time I graduated I thought that I was going to be a farmer. The
Lord had other plans. During the year after high school I was
working full time. It was while working that the Lord called me to
enter the seminary and discern the priesthood. I joined St.
Joseph’s College Sem- inary in Chicago for the Archdiocese of
Milwaukee at the age of 19. While in college seminary studying at
Loyola University in Chicago I encountered a group called Jesus
Youth. Over my fours years in college Jesus Youth be came very
important part of my life and towards the end
of college the Lord really began to show me that he was calling me
to became a missionary priest with Jesus Youth. After I graduated
college seminary I took a year to do missionary work and to grow in
the Jesus Youth spiritually to know whether I was really called to
become a priest for them. During that year the Lord made it very
clear he was calling me to become a priest for Jesus Youth. At the
end of that year I applied to the St Vincent de Paul Seminary in
South Florida. I have been studying at St. Vincent seminary for the
last two years and I am very excited to be with all of you at Holy
Name of Jesus for this upcoming year. Let us welcome and keep
Joseph in our prayers during his pastoral year with us.

A Brief History, The Legion was founded in Dublin, Ireland, as a
Roman Catholic Marion movement by lay- man Frank Duff making the
Legion the largest Apostolic Organization of Lay People in the
Catholic Church. To be in the Legion, one must be a practicing
Catholic. The main Apos- tolate of the Legion consists in
activities di- rected towards all man and women, young or old rich
or poor as well as people from all walks of life. The in short the
Legion of Mary is a Lay Catholic Organization whose mem- bers are
giving service to the Church on a voluntary basis in almost every
country in the world. Members meet once a week for prayer, plan-
ning and discussion in a family setting. Then they do one to two
hours of work each in pairs and under the guidelines of their Spir-
itual Director. Some examples are taking Holy Communion to the sick
and homebound, transportation to Mass/CCD classes/Doctors/
shopping, promoting the Pilgrim Mary Statue to Family’s homes, the
approved list goes on…. Let’s Pray the Rosary and foster a deeper
devotion to Mary among all people.
