April—Virtue of the Month is JUSTICE
The Virtue of the Month for April is JUSTICE.
Although most of us enjoy a standard of living that is comfortable and se-
cure, there are many among us, who for a variety of reasons live in poverty.
And there are many more whose lives are in the balance between
fulfillment and indignity. We often question where is the justice in this in our
world?
St. Mother Teresa reminds us that;
“Hunger is not only for a piece of bread but for love.
Homelessness is not only not having a home, but also about being rejected
and unwanted. Loneliness is a greater burden than hunger.”
Whenever and wherever you can try to be kind, inclusive, loving and helpful
to those around you. You can be the change by finding ways for simple acts
of kindness.
HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO TRY TO DO IN YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE:
treat others in a just, equitable and unbiased manner.
I will play by the rules, take turns and share.
I will be respectful of others in my family, school and parish communi-
ties.
I will seek peaceful solutions to problems.
I will be a peacemaker in my school, in my workplace
I am forgiving
I follow rules and do my share.
I will stand up for what is right.
I respect and protect the world and all that is in it.
Prayer for Justice,
Oh God, help us to always see those around us with loving and compassion-
ate eyes. If they need us, help us to reach out to them. May we always work
towards breaking down the barriers that make people feel alone. In show-
ing kindness and care to each other we will make a
difference; we will be demonstrating our love for you.
We will work at making our world a more just place to
live. We make this prayer in your name, Jesus. Amen.

Sign Up for School Messenger
One of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our
students arrive safely to school each and every day.
To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure TCDSB has introduced a new, more
efficient student absence reporting system called
SafeArrival. This new system will reduce the time it
takes to verify student attendance, making it easy for
you to report your child’s absence and easy for staff
to respond to
unreported student absences. With SafeArrival, you
are asked to report your child’s absence in advance
using any of these 3 convenient methods:
Using your mobile device, download and install
the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App
Store or the Google Play Store (or from the links
at https://go.schoolmessenger.com). The first
time you use the app, select Sign Up to create
your account. Select Attendance then Report
an Absence.
Use the SafeArrival website,
https://go.schoolmessenger.com. The first time
you use the website, select Sign Up to create
your account. Select Attendance then Report
an Absence.
Call the toll-free number 1 (833) 251-3286 to report
an absence using the automated phone
system.
These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a
week. Future absences can be reported at any time
up to a maximum of 10 consecutive days. It is
important to note that when setting up your account,
you must register using the email address and phone
number associated with your child’s Trillium account.
In addition, schools will use the SchoolMessenger
Communicate automated notification system to
contact parents whose child is absent when the
absence was not reported in advance. The
automated notification system will attempt to contact
parents at multiple contact points until a reason is
submitted for the absence. If our system is unable to
reach the designated contacts, office staff will
follow up.

DESTINATION IMAGINATION CONTINUED
Destination Imagination was a great experience for my
teammates and I. In this competition we learned
responsibility, cooperation, and we were able to express
our creativity. Our team had the pleasure in accepting
the Medical Mystery challenge. We created a play
where we used a fairy tale theme and tried to
incorporate the main part of the challenge into it. The
challenge for our group was to create a fake illness of
the human body and to try and solve the “Medical
Mystery”, with a technical component as well. This fairy
tale theme to our play was the inspiration for our team
name “Princess Tingz”, which helped showcase our
creativity at the competition. Our team had also created
many props with things like papier-mâché, circuit boards,
a fake x-ray and more. Though there were many other
teams with great props and plays put together as well,
the Princess Tingz stayed confident throughout most of
the competition. We watched others perform and
wished our classmates good luck. I found that our team
did the best we could and were very close to moving on!
Only off by 10 points!
Nonetheless, our team had a
great time at Destination
Imagination, and we hope
that one day you’ll do it too!
SILLY SHIRT DAY
St. Timothy School has been participating in the Enbridge
Energy School Challenge. Our school is in a race with
other schools throughout Ontario, competing to save the
most energy. Each action we take will earn our school
points and get us closer to winning up to $3000 but we
must complete activities by the end of this week.
On Wednesday, March 27 of the suggested activities is to
host a Silly Sweater Day. The Eco Team invited everyone
to wear our most unique or silliest sweater to school as a
reminder that we can conserve energy by dressing
warmly and turning down the temperature.
Great job St. Timothy! Thank you to staff and students for
their high participation on this!
TCDSB Earth Hour Challenge
Did you know that at St. Timothy School,
we have reduced our energy usage by
nearly 30% over the past 7 years?
To celebrate this achievement, we have
signed up to participate in Earth Hour
2019. On Friday, March 29th we turned
of all non-essential lights and devices between the hours
of 10 am and
11 am.

WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY
AT ST. TIMOTHY
WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY PRAYER
God of justice, love and peace, thank you
For gathering us together this day.
In the midst of the excitement and challenges we all have in life,
You are always present to lead and to guide.
Thank you for giving us another day
To appreciate one another and one another’s gifts.
As we raise this flag on World Autism Awareness Day
Let it be a reminder of the dignity, respect, and love
That each person deserves.
Help all our young people to reach their full potential
And bless our families, our caregivers and our educators
In their ministry in Catholic education and life.
Bless always those with Autism and keep them in your care.
Amen
LIGHT IT UP BLUE!
On Tuesday, April 2, 2019 staff and students
represented St. Timothy school at the
Catholic Education Centre for World Autism
Awareness Day. Students, parents and staff were
present for the Flag Raising and the Prayer
Service. Also there were games and refreshments
to be shared by all.
Once back at St. Timothy for the afternoon the
whole school was able to participate in a
walk outside the school grounds while wearing
their Autism Awareness bracelets shown to the
right of this page. Up front and central was the
white flag seen on the right of this page. This flag
will be proudly displayed at our school to remind
us of our increased awareness of Autism. Thank
you to Mary Salemi and Jackie Sajanlal for
coordinating this special day.
