ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed
Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I
long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now
receive You sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I
embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit
me to be separated from You.
2020 St. Margaret
Annual Collection We are very grateful for the generosity shown by so
many to our Annual Collection.
Every gift is sincerely appreciated.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

There is a subtle nuance in today’s First Reading that is
important in biblical studies. If the “heavens were closed,” there
was no rain or snow to water the earth AND no prophetic voice.
There is no warning, admonition, or word of impending doom to
prepare the people as in classical Old Testament times. As we hear
today in Isaiah, “My word shall not return to me void, but shall do
my will, achieving the end to which I sent it.”
Admittedly, there is an internal conflict within the New
Testament. Mark and Luke here the voice from heaven speak to
Jesus, “You are my beloved Son…” Matthew has a generic, “This
is my beloved Son.” In the Gospel of John, the Baptist was told that
the “one on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain, He is
the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.” Jesus is the
WORD; we listen to him.
One who listened obediently to the Lord was St. Joseph,
husband of Mary. Never a doubt, complain, or refusal, Joseph was
the ever ready servant of the Lord.
Pope Francis has announced the Year of St. Joseph for
the Universal Church until Dec. 8th, 2021. The Holy Father
wrote Patris corde (With a Father’s Heart). Against the backdrop
of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Pope wrote that the crisis has
helped us see more clearly the importance of “ordinary” people
who, though far from the limelight, exercise patience and offer
hope every day. In this, they resemble Saint Joseph, “the man who
goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet and hidden presence,” who
nonetheless played “an incomparable role in the history of
salvation.”
Below is the daily Prayer to St. Joseph written for this special
year of grace:
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen.
As we come to the end of this Christmas Season, may the Lord
bless us with mercy, strength, and love.
