MOVIE REVIEW: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 PG-13

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is the 2017 sequel to the 2014 movie Guardians of the

Galaxy (GOTG). These two movies are the first in the new Marvel Comics superhero team

franchise. The film is written and directed by James Gunn and features a lot of famous ac-

tors such as Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, Vin Diesel, and Zoe Saldana

(see the list of Cast below). GOTG2 is hilarious and more kid-friendly than the first, but

there is still a lot of profanity and some mild violence. This makes it suitable for kids age

12+.

The visual effects are amazing and the plot is pretty easy to follow. Peter Quill, the Star

Lord (Chris Pratt) and his fellow Guardians are hired by a powerful alien race, the Sover-

eign, to protect their precious batteries from invaders. When it is discovered that Rocket

(Bradley Cooper) has stolen the items they were sent to guard, the Sovereign send their

army to search for vengeance. As the Guardians try to escape, the mystery of Peter's par-

entage is revealed.

The basic theme of GOTG2 is about the love and support we get from our families, wheth-

er they are biologically related or just put-together. It’s a good reminder that people can

love each other but still disagree and fight. What makes this movie great is that it is easy to

like all the characters, even the villains. My favorite character is Yondu played by Michael

Rooker because he was both really funny and really scary at the same time. Just like the

first GOTG, the soundtrack is great with songs from the 1970’s and 80’s.

There are 5 secret scenes at the end of the movie so stay until the screen goes black.

I highly recommend "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" for ages 12+. You can see it in

IMAX 3D or in regular 3D. 5/5 Stars.
