Latvia is a small country in the north of Europe.
It’s next to Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus.
Latvia is located next to the Baltic sea.
The Gauja is the longest river in Latvia – 452 km.
Area - 64 589 km2
Population - 2 217 053 people
Most of the population are Latvians, and
there are also others.
Official language – Latvian
The dominant religion is Christianity.

The independence of Latvia was declared on
the 18th of November in 1918.
The first president of Latvia was Jānis
Čakste.
On the 4th of May in 1990 the independence
of Latvia was renewed.
The capital of Latvia is Riga. It was founded
in 1201.
In 2014 it has become the European Capital
of Culture.
Vecrīga is a very beautiful and historical
place and is visited each year by many
tourists.

Every year on the 18th of November at the
shore of the Daugava we make fireworks. A
lot of people come to this event.
Every four years there is a Song and dance
festival. A lot of dance groups and choruses
participate in this event.
Adazi is 25 km from Riga. The river Gauja
flows through Adazi. A symbol of Adazi is a
water lily.
Last year the population of Adazi was 10 060.
There is an army base near Adazi. A large
part of the territory consists of Adazi landfill.
In 2011 a new Culture center was built in
Adazi. People can go to the concerts and
theatre there.
There is a Music and art school too.

Adazi Secondary School is in Adazi region,
30 Gaujas Street.
Near our school flows Latvia’s longest river - the
Gauja.
The new school was opened in 1986. The School is
27 years old. This year there are 1051 students and
89 teachers in our school.
There is a stadium near our school, a skatepark and
a sports centre with a swimming pool.
Studies begin on the 1th of September - The day of
knowledge, and ends on the 31th of May.
There are 23 classes in primary school.
There are 20 classes in middle school.
There are 5 classes in high school.
After school we have a chance to take part in classes
like dancing, theatre, choir, sport activities, floristic,
music, chess, and join our school museum formation
group.
At school we have a club “Little Europeans”, they
organize different events.
In September - an autumn cross, a poetry day,
European language day.
In October - ZZ championship (a team game with sports
and intellectual tasks).
In November - Latvia’s birthday.
In December - different Christmas events.
In March – theatre days.
In April - European days.
In May - Mother- and family day, an omission-Last bell
for classes 9 and 12. Begin of summer break.
