Colleges LikeStudent-Athletes

College like student-athletes because they are involved and active.

Colleges like to see that even when they are playing sports an athlete can still succeed in their academics. They are able to balance their schedules.

Colleges also like that student-athletes are productive with the time they have. There is very little room for procrastination while playing sports and being a student.

Student-Athletesin School

Athletes have a very low drop out rate.

Student-athletes need to maintain certain grades to pass.

Most athletes have a very good work ethic for sports which transfers to school as well.

High attendance rate to classes, need to be in class to play games.

Personally for me whenever I fail a test I have to retake it because I can’t afford to not play sports.

Disadvantages

Stress.

Injuries.

Pressure.

Busy schedules.

Scholarships can be taken away.

Missing classes, having to catch up.

Injuries

Injuries can range from scrape to life threatening.

Very dangerous and physically demanding sports.

Can be very dangerous for college athletes that have a scholarship to play sports.

Can lead to injuries that continue to bother people for the rest of their life.

Also can be tough because a lot of time athletes get out of shape from having to rest their injury which can be challenging to get back in shape.

Pressure

Pressure on yourself.

Pressure from your coach or teacher.

Athletes can have pressure from their parents.

Pressure can be tough on kids and some kids can’t handle it.

Pressure for trying to make the sports and studies the right way.

Busy Schedules

Athletes have full schedules that take up the whole day.

It can sometimes be tough and stressful when an athletes’ schedule gets chaotic.

College athletes have even more busy schedules when they have workouts in the morning, then class, then practice, then meetings, then film, and then they have to find some time to study.

Balancing Sports with School and Friends

It can be hard to learn how to balance time so that an athlete can set time aside for school.

A lot of time an athlete has a full day which will include going to school to practice, dinner, and then studying.

It can be challenging some times to hangout with friends because of playing sports.

Although if your friends play the same sport it can be a lot easier.

Student-Athletewith a Job

It can be very hard to have a job when you are a student-athlete because there is no time to work.

Athletes already have a full schedule and already have no free time.

This is especially hard for college athletes because their schedules are even busier.

This can be especially hard for some of the athletes that already do not have a lot of money and really need a job to help support themselves.

Expectations

Even tough students play all these sports and have less time to study, they are still expected to do the same as other students.

Parents expect their children excel in both, sports and school.

You put expectations on yourself that some times can be hard to achieve.

Conclusion

Being a student-athlete has its advantages and disadvantages, but I believe that at the end, the

advantages out weight the disadvantages.
