Dear Parishioners,
I’m amazed at God’s creation and how one simple seed can give rise to a plant that bears so many
more seeds. During this time of year, I enjoy the taste of a watermelon even if it has seeds in it.
What seems to be hundreds of seeds in a watermelon all came from a single seed. In the readings
this weekend, we hear that seeds are likened to God’s message for mankind; God’s word can be
disseminated in many different directions, but so much depends upon the soil that it lands on. Our
hearts can be hardened like a beaten down path or they can be stony where nothing can take root.
Prayer and devotion help prepare our hearts to receive the “Seed of God”, which brings us life, joy,
and peace. May our hearts be fertile soil for the blessings of God.
God bless you!
Fr. Winchel

Our New Principal At St. Joseph Catholic School Our new principal for St. Joseph's has arrived and began working with us in preparation for our upcoming school year. Please
continue to pray for all of the children in our parish and for their continued walk with Christ. Be sure and welcome Mr. Porto
when you see him. Here is a brief introduction: Mr. Alex Porto has been nam ed principal at St. Joseph Catholic School in Macon. Mr.
Porto has worked in Catholic schools for 25 years in the Archdioceses of Miami and Atlanta. His most
recent leadership position was serving as principal of St. John Neumann Regional Catholic School in
Lilburn. Having worked in Catholic schools his entire professional career, Alex is skilled to lead
St. Joseph’s Catholic School into the next phase of excellence for which Catholic schools are regarded.
Alex is truly a life-long learner. He attended Catholic schools from kindergarten to graduation. He
earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems from the University
of Miami and his Master of Science in Computer Education and certification in Educational Leadership
from Barry University in Miami. The St. Joseph Catholic community will greatly benefit from his many
gifts and talents. Raised by Cuban immigrant parents, Alex is bilingual in English and Spanish.
In his spare time, Alex enjoys fishing, hunting and playing guitar. He currently plays solo/duo acoustic shows, and plays in a
band based out of Lawrenceville, GA. Alex recently stated that he believes that “Catholic education is a vehicle through which a child can experience God at such a
fundamental level that he/she is truly formed to become God’s people. We are called to educate the whole child.
Through Catholic education I can help children become the people God has called them to be.” St. Joseph Catholic School is a Pre-K thru grade 6 Catholic elementary school in Macon. It serves more than 250 children in the
community.

Wright earned his degree in Criminal
