- Lk 1:35
Dear Parishioners,
!! ! ! ! ! Here we are on the fourth and last Sunday of Advent. I
trust that this has been a good season of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus which we will observe this coming Thursday. Advent is a time to come to
terms with all of the obstacles that keep us from recognizing Jesus in our everyday
lives. It is also a time to observe the darkness in the world around us and to
acknowledge our need for the spiritual light that only Jesus can give.
There are so many voices in the world today that try to guide us in one direction
or another. There are so many people who masquerade as light and want us to believe that they can be our guides. What we celebrate this week is that there is one
who is our true light, one who can guide us along the right path. This little baby
that was born in Bethlehem, who looked like any other baby, so dependent on his
mother, so vulnerable, this little baby would grow up to be the Way, the Truth and
the Life. Whenever we find ourselves in the midst of confusion, when we don’t
know which way to turn or who to believe, we can always turn to this Jesus who has come among us to teach us the truth. He helps us to avoid the obstacles in our
path and to see things as they really are. May our celebration of Christmas this year
go beyond the sentimental celebration of the birth of a baby and move us to
commitment to the adult Jesus who is our Light.
Father Plante
Father, all-powerful God,
your eternal Word took flesh on our earth when the Virgin Mary placed her life at the service of your plan. Lift our
minds in watchful hope to hear the voice which announces his glory, and open our minds to receive the Spirit who
prepares us for his coming. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
