The Ruth Report
Dear Friends -
It’s official! We kicked off our re-election campaign with a one-day, four-stop “boats, buses and bikes” tour across Michigan.
The exciting day started out with a ride on an American-made Harley in Waterford, buses in Lansing, a stop in
Grand Rapids and a kayak ride in Holland. A big thanks to our hosts, emcees, supporters and volunteers!
I’m proud of our team and what we’ve fought to accomplish in just three years:
xCONVENIENCE—Shortening lines and tripling online services.
x INTEGRITY—Safeguarding elections with post-election audits, training and cleaning up the voter rolls.
xFIGHTING FRAUD - Protecting consumers against auto insurance rip-offs.
xHELPING FAMILIES - Going to bat on organ donation and for our veterans.
It’s been an honor to serve as your Secretary of State and I’m respectful-ly asking you for four more years because we can do so much more!

What Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson wants you to do 'from the comfort of your home' MLIVE – GRAND RAPIDS Monday, April 21, 2014 GRAND RAPIDS, MI – When ballot committees file campaign finance reports this week in advance of a May 6 vote on a city streets tax proposal, the fundraising data won’t be available online. Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson wants to make that information, which is available for statewide elections, more accessible for candidates and ballot issues in local communities all over the state.
LANSING – Beginning May 1, Michigan veterans can display their proof of service right on their Michigan driver's license.
Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Director Jeff Barnes today celebrated the official kick-off of Michigan's new driver's license for veterans.
The new license, which has the word "Veteran" in bold red on the front of the card, will be available to all honorably discharged Michigan veterans.
Johnson said it's particularly fitting that the new license will be available in a month where veterans are remembered and honored for their service.
"We are indebted to these courageous men and women and this will help them get the benefits they have earned and deserve," said Johnson. "I hope every store clerk, every bank teller who sees this on a driver's license will take a moment to thank that veteran for their service and sacrifice."
At a press conference at the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency announcing the official May 1 kick-off of a new driver’s license available to honorably discharged veterans! Michigan has 680,000 veterans, the 11th highest in the country.
Photo Gallery A quick note from Ruth: A big thanks for the warm Yooper welcome! Our recent trip to the Upper Peninsula was wonderful (and busy) – three town halls, two meetings with business leaders, breakfast with some of our awesome clerks, organ donation awards and time with seniors. Beautiful up there — even in the late spring snow!

With State Rep. Ed McBroom who helped us throughout our UP visit. We’re here in Iron Mountain. Thanks again Ed!
With my mom Ginny, age 87, in my hometown of Waterford Township. It was the first stop on our campaign kick-off. Mom and my dad, now gone, bought their first house in Waterford. Their American Dream home was originally 400 square feet. Dad was an auto worker and mom, before she had us, painted Chrysler dashboards as they came down the assembly line.
