Student Life
Angrily washing dishes Roxana Perez, freshman, is forced to do her chores. Roxana was promised that if she did them correctly she would gain ten dollars. This was an offer that she could not refuse. “I was ripped off. When I finished washing the dishes I went to go get my ten dollars but my dad just lectured me saying that I should clean the whole house and not receive any money,” said Roxana Perez.
A child’s delight
Reading a spanish children’s book Maria Salas, freshman, laughs in excitement at the different children’s stories included in the book. Once she first saw the book she was excited because all of her beloved children’s stories were now in spanish. Since she knew how to speak the language it was very easy to read. Some classic stories that were included in the book were: The cat in boots, Little Red Ridding Hood, and The Three Little Pigs.
Practice makes permaneant
Practicing warm up scales Maria Salas, freshman, tunes her
alto saxophone. She has been playing the alto sax since the
sixth grade and is still in the Haltom High School Band. She was
participant in the 2011 Rose Bowl Parade. Maria plans to stay in
band all four years of high school
Rocking Out
Playing the song What I’ve Done by Linkin Park, Maria Salas
tries her best to keep up with her opponent. Since Maria does
not play guitar hero often, she was losing very badly. Maria
learned that next time she should try an easier level instead of
starting on an expert level.
Lunch Randomness
Eating a fruit cup Crystal Salazar, freshman, talks to Karla
Samlee, freshman, during b lunch in the cafeteria. Crystal and
Karla were talking about Spanish soap operas they saw from
the day before. “People in soap operas are talk weird.
Especially Spanish ones because when they are surprised they
say Oh-My-Gosh really funny,” said Karla Samlee.
Rocking to the Beat
Playing on a keyboard Maria Salas, freshman, plays a song
from Beethoven. She has been playing the piano since she was
a little girl. “My parents bought me a piano a long time ago, but
I didn’t know how to play it. When I got into my middle school
band I finally knew how to play it,” said Maria Salas.
Even though Maria Salas, freshman, was never taught to play the
flute she naturally found out how to play that insturment. She was
friends with many flute players and so Maria would gradually learn the
notes and fingerings for the flute. Maria learned how to play the
saxophone in the sixth grade and can also play many pieces on the
flute.
Hard at work Maria Salas, freshman, helps out a Haltom
Middle schol student Gerardo Perez, 6th grader, with his
homework. He had procrastinated and needed help on his
social studies homework. When he turned in his homework the
next day his teacher had given him a 100.
