INTRODUCTION

Acaref~Y study of the-~Cat.~Nd:-· 24:9-0TUfii\irse--"-~:··I~(0"",,ilh"ij,,~""4~"';

will reveal that with a certain amount of ingenuity,it can undoubtedly be adapted to other types ofmachines, such as Drill Presses, Mills, etc., forother applications or purposes. . Y

The following. instructions will give you an ex-planation of the setting up procedure when usingthe 24-902 Univise.

This manual plus the Rockwell instruction manualscovering the Rockwell/Delta Toolmaker Grinder(PM 408-01-651-5003) and the Rockwell 24-823Coolant Attachment (PM 408-01-655-5007) will besufficient for use with the Toolmaker Chip BreakerGrinding Machine.

It is of the utmost importance, therefore, that youreview these manuals so that you may becomethoroughly familiar with the adjustments and func-tions of its various components.

OPERATION

This univise is made up of Station #1 with clampbody, Stations 2 and 3, and Station 4 (base).

Each station is provided with an adjustable wit-ness plate and a calibrated indexing body. Thepurpose of the calibrated indexing body is to keepa permanent record on tools previously ground.The tool can then be reground the same way at alater date by setting the respective stations to theproper angles which are kept on file.

The base is provided with two 7/16" removablekeys which fit into the T-slot of the Toolmakergrinding table.

The sides of the base are also milled parallel withthe key slot in the base. The reason for this isto permit the Univise to be placed against the sidestop of a magnetic chuck. This will automaticallybring the vise parallel with the T-slot of the tableproviding the magnetic chuck has been properlydoweled or otherwise squared up with the tableslots.

Fig. 1.

It should be noted that all three of the calibratedindexing bodies are identical, enabling the operatorto remove one or two of the stations and mount theclamp body on the n ext one. The clamp body canalso be mounted directly on the base, if necessary,for certain work. The removable keys enable theoperator to use the vise on magnetic chucks andalso enable the operator to make special keys whenthe vise is to be used on other grinders or ma-chines.

The Univise has been carefully assembled at thefactory and thoroughly checked for accuracy.It is. therefore not necessary to readjust the viseunless the squareness has been thrown out ofadjustment in transit.

If a station should be out of line, correction can bemade quickly by squaring up the number and reset-ting the adjustable zero plate until it coincides withthe zero or 90 degree mark of the dial.
