Created views of gender in the

mediaNowadays due to the manipulation of

the female seemingly hegemonic

norms (for example to be seen as

lesser to men) women have, more so

than ever, been made into a sexual

object. Most images of women now in

advertising are provocative and

arousing. Women’s bodies are often

dismembered into emphasising legs,

thighs and breasts.

David Buckingham and Sara Bragg

reported that two-thirds of young

people turn to media when they want

to learn about sex. All this has come

mainly come from the influence of

women’s bodies

MEN vs women in media

The media infantilize women, portraying them as child-like, innocent and vulnerable.

Being vulnerable is often closely linked to being a potential victim of violence.

This can be seen in the clip we’ve watched on Primeval. The scene in the barn where the man is standing over the woman who is on the floor, shows the woman to be very vulnerable.

How men are mostly shown

Men are often glamorised in the media, they are often shown to be the protector of the woman to show a powerful hero-like symbol.

The can be made to look very well-dressed, even though stuff like this can be seen to be sexually provocative from a female perspective, the men already seemingly hold power over women therefore it’s not seen as a problem because men are always in control
