This research is part of a multi-year, statewide project involving research and development of native plant materials (seed) for the commercial seed market. Our work regions are in the Trans-Pecos, Western Edwards Plateau, Rolling Plains, and the Permian Basin.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHER: WEST TEXAS NATIVES

Sul Ross State University and Borderlands Research Institute

What:

-Collect seed from target species list. -Assist in maintaining farming operations. -Assist in data collection of plant materials. -Assist in greenhouse grow-out operations. -Assist in seed lab work. -Other tasks as assigned. -Travel is expected with this position, depending on class schedule.

When:

16 May — 31 August 2019

(beginning and ending dates are flexible).

Where:

-Plant collections will take place at designated areas throughout the Trans-Pecos, Western Edwards Plateau, Rolling Plains, and the Permian Basin. -Lab work will be conducted at the Sul Ross Centennial School

JOB DESCRIPTION

Plant ID skills are preferred, but not necessary.

Experience with tractors and other farm and ranch

equipment preferred, but not necessary (training will be

provided).

Must be willing to work independently, or as part of a team.

Must come up with a side research project from dataset.

Must be able to present findings at Sul Ross and at least 1

project-related conference.

Must be a Texas resident.

GPA of ≥2.5

Dedication of >20hrs/wk to research.
