Director’s Message
Dear Parents, Students & Community Members,
Culture matters! The culture of a school matters a lot! It
is the glue that binds together the community of parents,
teachers and learners.
Policy only becomes effective and is needed when the
culture is weak. The two go hand in hand to find the
perfect balance. Engage our students in conversation at
QSI International School of Malta and determine for
yourself the climate that exists.
Happy Hunting!!

Biology A microscope is a gate to all kind of jewels! Microorganisms are not just dots. They have very complex shapes that allow them to move and reproduce. We finished our EO6 “Classification” where we studied ALL organisms in out planet (from the six kingdoms: Eubacteria, Archaeobacteria, Fungi, Protista, Plantae and Animalia). Did you know that the largest organism is a honey fungus, Armillaria ostoyae in Oregon spanning 8.9 km²? Did you know that the oldest organism is a bristlecone pine tree, Pinus longaeva, in California with 5063 years? Did you know that the smallest organism are bacteria? Did you know that viruses are not alive? Did you know whales can hold their breath for up to two hours? We have studied various microorganisms under the microscope: bacteria, yeast, algae, mold and mushrooms.
Technology The first Game on event in the school was a success. Younger students enjoyed playing at the various games designed and programmed by our class. After everyone had voted, the award for the best programmer of the school went to Nastya Guseva. She is happily posing with her prize and the rest of the class. We have also finished practicing with the main tools in Photoshop for image manipulation. Students designed the poster for the first QSI Science fair.
Geometry We are working on our EO9 “Quadratic equations”. “y = ax
2+bx+c” is definitely physicists favorite equation.
It is used to describe a object falling due to gravity and it is the parabola traced by a ball when thrown by a catapult, a football player or a tennis racket.
We are learning how to solve it graphically (by hand and using computer) and algebraically (the quadratic formula).

Geometry We are working on EO8 “Trigonometry”. We concentrated on right triangles so we can use the Pythagorean theorem to study side’s lengths. Using the newly acquired trigonometric functions (sine, cosine and tangent and the help of a calculator) we can solve any right triangle knowing just one angle and one length! We spend also one day looking into the Fibonacci series: the key to spirals that are found in Nature (leaves, flow-ers, pinecones, pineapples, etc).
