On behalf of the staff at Donaldson Elementary, I would like to take a moment and reflect on the loss of Mrs. Tonya (Zang) Curigliano, beloved Donaldson teacher. Mrs. Curigliano had been teaching for almost 14 years when she had to take a medical leave in November of 2012. She bravely battled cancer for more than a year and inspired all of us while doing so. The Donaldson staff will never quite be the same without her. We remember her as a caring, smart, happy, funny, and outgoing teacher. She was always quick to help out with any project and wanted nothing in return. She talked about all of her classes of fifth graders over the years as “my kids” when she referred to them. She had a quick sense of humor and handled all of her students and parents with care and ease, building professional relationships with many of her students’ parents. So many of those former students and their families came to Mrs. Curigliano’s viewing or her funeral and many took the time to send a note to Mr. Curigliano and/or Mrs. Zang, the former Donaldson Secretary and mother of Tonya (Zang) Curigliano. She was loved by many because Mrs. Curigliano quietly and consistently showed her love for teaching and watching her students’ growth -year after year. I hope when those of you who had the honor of knowing Mrs. Curigliano (or Miss Zang) reflect back on her, that you too get a big smile on your face and remember the wonderful teacher she truly was. I know that all of us at Donaldson Elementary will never forget her!
