Office of Proposal Development

• Created to enhance the quality and competitiveness of grant proposals from UNL to external sponsors

• Four full-time staff:

– maintain knowledge of proposal preparation requirements

– compose, organize, and refine proposal information

– interact with proposal teams to conceptualize and compose proposals

– facilitate collaboration between UNL and partnering organizations

Office of Proposal Development

• Since 2005, OPD staff have helped secure more than $374 million in competitive funding

• OPD is a value-added service

– UNL grant applicants not required to work with OPD

– OPD sees 15-20% of proposals submitted by UNL

• OPD focuses on the narrative components of a grant application

• Contact OPD early to ensure optimum assistance

• Funding source identification

– Compile Funding Announcements, a weekly list of funding opportunities relevant to UNL expertise

– Conduct targeted searches for specific projects

– Create a plan to develop the proposal

– Generate a proposal checklist, outline, and timeline
