Mast VarnishingPreparingCarefully remove the mast, scrape & sand the old varnish off and sand the mahogany to a smooth, warm brown finish.
RepairingIf the cross member has detached you will need to reattach this as well as you can. Wooden wedges and adhesive can help.
Unfortunately it is not always possible to fix this economically with long lasting effect. A new mast is the better option here.

ProtectingProtecting the warm brown mahogany wood is key.
Apply coats of Wood Impreg to the bare wood so that this varnish soaks deep into the wood grain.
