EARLY SPRING SEMESTER

• Ask the following question:-

• If it only takes One Person to make a Positive Difference, how would YOU help improve the health of YOUR Community?

THE IDEAS

• Provide prenatal vitamins to Mother’s in low socioeconomic situations.

• Promote vaccinations within the District.

• Create a Community Garden Area on our campus.

THE IDEAS

• Design an Outdoor Classroom.

• Improve our drinking fountains.

• Improve our Community Fitness Center.

• Provide the Community with organic gardening courses.

THE IDEAS

• Create an area within Counseling that provides students with a calming environment.

• Provide a Middle School after school Art Therapy Club.

THE IDEAS

• Involve more District students in the District 5K.

• Encourage the local communities to provide healthier food and drink opportunities during local Fairs and Community Activities.

BUILDING GROUPS

• Students were encouraged to use the Blogging option on Google Classroom to discuss their ideas and create a group that had similar interests, even if this meant working with students in different classes.

PAIRING GROUPS WITH ADVISORS

• Asking District Staff with expertise to interact with a group during the process.

• Making connections between different Buildings.

• Providing an opportunity to network.

ADVISORS

• Students had to initiate contact, learning to introduce themselves and to gain valuable information from our Advisors.

• Students were expected to report progress to Advisors on a regular basis.

ADVISORS

• Advisors were welcome to view the final presentations.

• Students were expected to thank their Advisors.

• Some Advisors involved their Advisees in District decisions such as helping to design future classroom spaces.

INVOLVING THE STAKE HOLDERS

• Working with our Ladue Education Foundation, Ladue High School Parent Association, and Dad’s Club, we asked them to judge each of the student presentations during Academic Lab/Seminar.

INVOLVING THE STAKE HOLDERS

• We also involved the Building and District Administration in this judging process.

• This allowed students to convey what they felt was ‘a need’ to an audience that was willing to listen.

INVOLVING THE STAKE HOLDERS

• The students gained valuable information on their projects from the perspective of individuals who had not been involved in the complete process.

• The question and answer period of the presentations did provide valuable discourse.

STUDENT FEEDBACK

• Students felt ownership.

• Students felt that this was the first truly valuable group experience that they had had because they controlled the process.

• Students enjoyed working with the Advisors.

• Students requested that the process be started first semester.

• Students requested after school as a potential time for the presentations.
