To establish common standards for the skills of IT engineers within the region

To make it easier for companies in the area to establish business alliance for software development
To provide a common measure for IT engineers seeking employment

Current Status of Mutual Certification
JITSE Philippines
In Japan the organizers are:
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)-Sets standards-Announce examination dates in Official Gazette-List names of successful applicants in Official Gazette
Japan IT Engineers Examination Center (JITEC).
A division of Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA)-Undertakes all examination administration work
-Prepare questions and answer sheets, Select venues, Grade papers, Announce successful applicants, Prepare and deliver certificates signed by Minister
Very brief history of the exams in Japan
1969 First Exams held (Class I and II)
1984 Japan IT Engineers Examination Center (JITEC)
Categories added, reviewed and revised to meet social demands
2004 JITEC becomes a part of Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA) an
independent administration agency under METI
Objectives of the Examination
Improve individual technical competence.
Indicate levels of competence required for various fields of IT engineers, to act as
guidelines in education and training.
To establish objective criteria for evaluating skill and competence of IT engineers. Also aims to raise social status of qualified engineers.
