• Formalpresentationofastudythatadvancesservice-learningand/orcommunityengagementresearch,andpresentswell-developedargumentsonphilosophical,theoretical,policy,orpracticalissuesinthestudyofservice-learningandcommunityengagementandadheretothetenetsofscholarlyresearch.

• Paperauthorswillbeencouragedtosubmittheirpapersinadvanceoftheconference.

• Programdescriptionsand/orprogramevaluationresultswillnotbeconsideredoracceptedforpaperpresentations.

ResearchPaperPresentations

• Researchpaperabstractproposalsshouldcontainthefollowingasareapplicable,preferablyinthisorder:1. objectivesorpurposesofthestudy;2. theoreticalorconceptualframeworks/perspectives;3. methods,techniques,ormodesofinquiry;4. datasourcesorempiricalevidence;5. results,conclusions;6. significanceofthestudyfindings; and7. indicateifandhowethicalconcernswereaddressedand/orvulnerable

populationsweresafeguarded.

ResearchPaperPresentations

• Conferenceorganizerswillgrouppresentationsthematically,totheextentpossible(2papersper75-minutetimeblock).

• Conferenceorganizersandpeerreviewersmay recommendanotherpresentationformat.– Basedon#ofotherpresentations,topics,“match”

• Presentersarenotifiedofthesessionformatandmustconfirmacceptanceinthatformat.

PanelPresentations• Panelpresentationsfocusonresearchinthreeareas:

1. projects,2. issues,and/or3. agendas.ØTheyarenot programdescriptions/discussions.

• Thefocusofthediscussionisaclearlyidentifiedthemeortopicthat:– utilizesaparticulardisciplinaryortheoreticalperspectiveinconsideringaresearchproblem;

– reflectsanemergingissueinaspecificareaofresearch,policy,orpractice;or– centersonthedevelopmentofservice-learningandcommunityengagementtheoryorresearchmethodology.

PanelPresentations• Panelsareresearch-orientedbut,unlikearesearchpaperpresentation,thepanelorganizerdeterminesthethemeandsetofpresentersforanentiresession.

• Thenamesofatleastthreepresentersshouldbeincludedintheproposalandthebackgroundsofthepresentersshouldbedescribed.*

• Membersofthepanelwillmakebriefpresentationslinkingtheirscholarlyreflectionswiththetheme,afterwhichampleopportunityshouldremainfordiscussion.

• Presenterswillbelimitedtoleadingand/orparticipatinginonepanelsession,andselectedpanelswillbescheduledforthedurationofatimeblockinaspace,ratherthansharingitwithotherpapersorpresentations.

*Pleasenotethatwerealizeinsomecasesidentifyingpanelistspriortoproposalsubmissionmaybedifficult.Thatsaid,in caseswherethesubmitterisnotabletoidentifyatleastthreeparticipants,theyshoulddescribetheirmethodandtimelineforidentifyingandsolidifyingparticipantsandnotifyingIARSLCEfortheprogram.

PanelPresentations• Proposalsmustincludeandidentifyafacilitator/hostto:

• Panelproposalsshouldcontainasmanyofthefollowingasareapplicable,preferablyinthisorder:– objectivesofthesession;– significanceofthethemeortopic;– identificationofthepresentersandadiscussionoftheirbackgroundsrelatedtothethemeor

topic*;– adiscussionoftheresearch,perspective,orpracticethateachpresenterwillcontribute;and– adiscussionofhowthesessionwillbestructured,includingthedesignationofamoderatorand

strategiestofacilitateaudiencediscussion.

PosterSession• Posterpresentationsprovideaforumforscholarstoengageinactivediscussionwithotherconferenceparticipantsabouteitheracompletedresearchprojectorprospectusofaprojectindevelopingstages.Individuals,institutions,andorganizationsmaypresentposterstohighlightcurrentresearchorinternationalprogramsandcommunitypartnershipsthatyieldresearchopportunities.

• Posterpresenterswilldisplayresearchonalargebulletinboard(providedattheconference).

• Postersshouldbe48”x36” andhorizontalorientation.• Presenterswillattendthepostersessiontodiscusstheprojectwithconferenceattendeesandshouldalsobringawrittendetailedsummaryoftheirworktohandouttoattendees.

PosterSession• Posterpresentationproposalabstractsshouldprovide:

– aclearstatementofthepurposeorgoalsoftheresearchandthesignificanceofgoal(s) (i.e.,theprimaryresearchquestionsorissuesbeingaddressedorproposed);

– abriefsummaryofthetheoreticalorconceptualfoundationforthework;– aconcisedescriptionoftheresearchdesignandmethodsused;– theprojectfindings(ifapplicable);– Astatementofthetheoreticaland/orpracticalsignificanceandimplicationsofthe

research;and– Anindicationofifandhowethicalconcernswereaddressedand/orvulnerable

populationsweresafeguarded.• Therewillbeoneposterpresentationsessiononthesecondafternoonofthe

conference(7/19/2018).

RoundtableDiscussions

• Roundtablediscussionsprovideanopportunityforconferenceattendeestodiscussemergingresearchquestionswithfellowconferenceattendeesinaninformal,conversationalstyle.

• AdditionallyroundtablescanbeusedforNextGenerationScholarsandEmergingResearchers(NGSER)and/orGraduateStudents(GS)topresentscholarlyworks-in-progress.

• Giventheinformalstructureoftheroundtablepresentation,noaudio-visualequipmentwillbeprovided.

RoundtableDiscussions• Roundtablepresentersshouldallocateroughlyequaltimebetweendiscussionoftheirresearchandopportunitiesfordiscussionfromallsessionattendees.Thetypeofroundtable:Feedback/Input,CollaborativeResearch,TopicalDiscussionwillbenotedalongwiththetitlesintheconferenceprogram.– Input/Feedback- graduatestudentand/oremergingscholarsseekinginput/feedbackonresearchprojectsorthesis/dissertations,

– CollaborativeResearch - collaborativeresearchprojectexplorationacrossinstitutions,

– TopicalDiscussions- discussionsonimportanttopics(e.g.diversity/equity,professionalizationoffield,etc.)designedtogenerateresearchideasand/orpolicybriefs/whitepaperessaysco-authoredbyroundtableparticipantsforreviewandpotentialpublicationbyIARSLCE.
