Seoul Food and Hotel returned to Korea from 16 – 19 May, celebrating yet another successful edition and bringing with it international exporters from around the world, all with the key target of creating and developing business in the thriving Korean market. In its role as the largest international food and hospitality trade show in Korea, Seoul Food and Hotel continues to cement its position as the annual meeting place for Korean food and hospitality industry professionals to source new products, discover global food trends, and meet with international business partners. The show’s success is in a large part down to the unique co-operation of organising partners UBM Allworld, organisers of some of Asia’s most notable trade exhibitions including FHA and HOFEX, and KOTRA, Korea’s government trade -promotion agency. This unique collaboration has led to the continued development in size and quality since the very first Seoul Food and Hotel in 2007. The show took place from 16 – 19 May 2017, and saw a total of 54,200 local and overseas trade attendees visiting the show which took place on 74,171m² of KINTEX exhibition space. All of these figures including Seoul Food – the domestic side of the show as well. Overall exhibitor participation was 1,402 companies, 552 of which were international from 39 countries, continuing to show why the exhibition remains on top of Korean food and hospitality importers calendars. The impressive international exhibitor attendance, combined with such a huge number of Korean trade attendees helped reinforce Seoul Food and Hotel’s position as the focal point of the food and hospitality calendar in Korea.
The Seoul Food & Hotel Culinary Challenge ran for the third successive year, once again expanding on its previous edition in 2016, and now as a WACS endorsed event. The Culinary Challenge was made up of a series of 17 competitions where 300 chefs, ranging from students to professionals, competed for the chance to become the Seoul Food & Hotel Culinary Challenge 2017 Champions. The first two Culinary Challenge editions saw a focus on Korean chefs, but for the first time in 2017 the event was also opened for international participation – demonstrating its growing reputation. The event is supported by Korean Chefs Association, as well as Seoul Hoseo Technical College, all of whom worked alongside world renowned Chairman Mr Alan Palmer to create an event that is rapidly becoming one of Korea’s most dynamic and popular culinary competitions. Nestle Professional showed their continued support by sponsoring the Chef’s Lounge as they did in 2015 and 2016, and with plenty of interest for sponsorship across all cooking categories for next year, the competition looks set to expand even further in 2018. The winning chef Ahn Young Hyun will be rewarded with a trip to compete in the FHM Culinary Challenge, which will take place at UBM Allworld’s sister event Food and Hotel Malaysia, taking place in Kuala Lumpur 26 – 29 September 2017.
