Treatment of Structures – Fixed and Float behavior
As default Part BOM relationships are Float.
• As long as the parent Part is not Frozen (e.g. Released) new child version will be assembled automatically
• The Part BOM structure is always “Current”
As default the CAD Structure relationship is Fixed.
• The CAD Structure will stay “As Saved”
• New child versions are not assembled
• Different load options are available: As Saved, Latest Released, Current

Instances of the CAD product structure are mapped to CAD Structure relationships and CAD Instances

• The CAD integration has three options to select a child-CAD: “As Saved”: as linked in the data base, “Current”: the newest child-CAD Generation and “Released”: the latest child-CAD with status Released.
• A new revision of the Parent CAD inherits the [CAD Structure] relationship (4).
• If stored in context with PWB Update the [CAD Structure] relationship is updated to the current child-CAD Generation (5).

The PWB CAD integration directly connects the CAD to the Engineering BOM
This puts the design process in the right context and make it transparent for PDM
• BOM Synchronization is not required. Thus, no complex BOM Sync business logic must be implemented.
• Changes in the E-BOM don’t have to be ported to a CAD structure
• CAD structures are not required. CAD is completely managed in the context of the Part BOM and BOM Instances
• CAD design can directly be steered by Change Management as CM deals with Parts
• Design can be started top-down from PLM to CAD by definition of the E-BOM
• Configuration Filter can be applied to CAD Product Structures
• Design flexibility: Multiple CAD can be attached to one Part
• The majority of processes can run on Part-level, this simplifies any customization
• A Part BOM can be visualized with built-in and external viewers

• BOM Parts and CAD-only Parts are distinguishable by classification
• Part Classifications that are not configured for the CAD Integration (PWB) won’t be expanded or loaded in CAD
• CAD Part Classifications will be ignored by E-BOM management
• A dedicated BOM Structure Classification can be used for CAD-relevant structures
• Only BOM Structure of the configured Classification will be expanded and can be loaded into the CAD-system
