Rejang is a form of offering dance, and it’s not only for show. There are meditative elements in this ritual that captivate both
the audiences and the performers. The dance is performed throughout Bali by women of all ages, from young girls in age of three to as old as eighty years old. It is usually held
inside or just outside a Pura (Balinese temple) area in special occasions.
The tradition and style of the Rejang varies from region to region but mainly it consists of a group of female dancing in consecutive row, accompanied by a tranquil Balinese
melody. Each group contain up to 12 dancers at once. After 30 minutes of slowly dancing in smooth, dreamlike motion, they just casually walk off to the side and blend in with the
audiences. After that, they immediately replace other groups who did the same dance for a total of 4 hours.
Although it seems easy, Rejang dance is actually so
complicated to be described in words. The dancers move in such natural way, keeping their paces and emotions
throughout the session. This is no ordinary synchronized dance as each dancer must become selfless and become one with the infinite motion of divine. It is a beautiful ancient ritual
that shows the best of Balinese tradition.

At first glance, Hansen’s works may only look abstract, but upon closer inspection one can see how deep he addresses each and every one of his art, as each color represents his question about particular topic, either in political or social aspects of life.
In S89 Artspace you can see the masterpiece paintings
created by Hansen himself, as well as other forms of art. Hansen has held numerous exhibitions almost around the world and at his gallery. His profile has been featured in several art magazines, newspaper, book, catalogue and magazine.

GUNUNG KAWI TEMPLE
“Tucked in the midst of lush Tampaksiring, Gunung Kawi
Temple is a magnificent remnant from Bali’s ancient era.“
Spread across either side of the sacred Pakerisan River, Gunung Kawi
Temple is an archeological complex carved out of the rock, offering a majestic view and atmosphere that brings you back to the 11th century.
There are 10 rock-cut ‘Candi’ or shrines at Gunung Kawi Temple, each carved into some 7 meter high sheltered niche on each Cliffside. Each candi made resemble a doorway, carved in relief but they lead to nowhere. Small chambers were built beneath every candi that contains a stone plaque called ‘peripih’, representing the necessity of earthly existence. Historical and archeological expert believe that the candis at Gunung Kawi Temple was built around 1080 AD by King Anak Wungsu to honor his father, the legendary King Udayana.
Contrary to popular belief, this temple is not King Udayana’s tomb, as evidence shows that the place never contain any human remain or ashes. The actual purpose of this temple is still shrouded in mystery, and many beliefs that the place is built solely for spiritual reason.
SITE
The temple’s name was derived from two words
, ‘Yeh’—means water, and ‘Pulu’, a stone container used to store rice. The walls at the temple area are covered by ancient stone carving that many experts believed that they were crafted by singular artist, spread across 25 meter
long and 4 meters wide of the entire wall area. The carving generally displays every life aspect of the old Balinese Kingdom from nature, agriculture, history, gods and men. It was heavily influenced by ‘wayang’ (Indonesian traditional puppet show).
YEH PULU TEMPLE
65TRAVELER
“Just a few minute drives away from the famous Goa Gajah, you can explore Yeh Pulu, a magnificent temple containing beautiful stone
carving.”
What really interesting from Yeh Pulu is the art of the stone carvings. On ancient day during 14th century, Balinese art was very idealistic and superhuman in nature, but the figures carved at this temple is more realistic and vigorous. It is still unknown why the
artist stayed away from the rules but he/she has indeed created a timeless masterpiece.
