Sunday, October 12, 2014, the Andrew Blackwood Memorial Blood
Drive returns to Saint Mark's. What is this and why does it matter?
Andy Blackwood was a Boy Scout in St. Mark's Troop 1 when he
contracted cancer. While being treated at City of Hope, he had 3 goals: to
graduate from high school with his friends, become an Eagle Scout, and
to organize a blood drive to help other people with cancer. Ultimately,
Andy lost his battle with cancer, but he lived long enough to achieve all
3 of his goals. Each year since, Troop 1 has partnered with City of Hope
to hold this blood drive in his memory. Thanks to the support of our
School and Church communities, this is now City of Hope's largest
annual blood drive! Please contact Seth, Nick, or Jonas Bass for more
information or to sign up: 818-359-4108 or craboo@mac.com. They,
and other members of the Saint Mark's Scouting family are happy to
accept sign-ups from anyone 18 or over. If you have questions about
your eligibility to donate, do not hesitate to ask as qualifications change
over time. Refreshments and comfortable donation beds are provided.
CROP Walk: Sunday, November 2, 1:00 p.m.
It is time to register for the annual CROP Hunger Walk! The event is on
Sunday, November 2 from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. and will benefit six local
agencies including the ACTS Food Pantry and the Bad Weather Shelter.
Saint Mark's is gathering a team, and there are several ways to help out:
1. Register and WALK - Walkers may choose between a slightly hilly 5k
route and a 1 mile walk on flatter terrain.
2. Donate - We will collect donations on Sunday, October 19 and
Sunday, October 26.
3. Spread the word! - Non-Saint Mark's members are welcome to join
our team too! Encourage friends to walk and donate.
Please contact Parker Garrett (CYF@saintmarksaltadena.org) with
questions or to register!
