Q1: My child enjoys school

Overall satisfaction has risen to 99% from 96% in 2013

Comments“He’s still very enthusiastic about all aspects of learning. Thank you!”

“The only complaint I hear is that there is not enough outside play space, they can’t play football for fear of running over the little ones. The front playground seems to be used as a car park now rather than a play space. Other than that he is happy.”

Q2: The school keeps my child safe

Overall satisfaction has fallen to 93% from 94% in 2013.

CommentsBad weatherConcerned about the children playing in the woods during high winds. Raised this issue with staff/office but not convinced by answer. Informed that children are not allowed to play in woods during high winds, but do staff know at which point children should be prevented from accessing woods?

Traffic“Police are not enforcing traffic control on zig-zags outside school. I have seen them speaking to a car parked on zig-zags but not moving them on.”

“Could the council be spoken to regarding bin collection time and maybe move to 9am? Happens at 8.15am when gates sometimes still shut and generally mayhem around the entrance – doesn’t feel safe!”

Q3: The school informs me about my child’s progress

Overall satisfaction has fallen to 89% from 90% in 2013.

Comments“I think the school is wonderful and I am very happy with the care and attention that my daughter has received. The only minor negative comment is about being updated with her progress. There is a parent teacher meeting every term and the teacher is always available to talk to. However, these parent teacher meetings are 10 minutes and seem a little rushed and parents sometimes feel a little troublesome if we are constantly asking for reassurance about our child. Maybe a few more structured progress reports would be helpful. Overall, however, I think that the teachers have been great and importantly very nurturing. Thank you.”

Q4: My child is making enough progress at this school

Overall satisfaction has risen to 87% from 86% in 2013.

Q5: The teaching is good at this school

Overall satisfaction has risen to 95% from 90% in 2013.

Comments

“The teaching this year has been fantastic. Really pleased with how well the teacher has taken on board his individual needs. At parents evening I really felt the teacher knew my son well.”

“Thank you to Mrs Laws for her early intervention and consultative approach working with us to help our son.”

“He … thinks Mr C is his best teacher ever!”

Q6: The school helps me support my child’s learning

Overall satisfaction has risen to 88% from 82% in 2013.

Comments“Still not keen on Friday reading. Classroom too busy/noisy and gives child mixed message regarding swift drop off in mornings.”

“I believe regular set homework, even if once a week for this age group would be good. It would support the academic learning in school … too much non-specific choice in the current system is not beneficial for young children or their parents in the current system.”

“Please can we have set homework that backs up subjects being covered in class? There can be too much conflict at home setting up these ‘choice’ homeworks and if you have a child that likes drawing they will tend to go for the non-academic choices rather than something that actually backs up and helps with their school learning. I much preferred the sheet system we had in Y1 with a homework to be handed in each week. At this age at school I had 20 mins timed homework every night and it certainly got me in the swing of things to come!”

Q7: The school helps my child have a healthy lifestyle

Overall satisfaction has remained steady

CommentsToilets“Toilets! The year 5/6 toilets are really very smelly. Also whenever I go in there is no soap. I’ve followed the cleaners in several times after they have cleaned and they smell so much I have to walk out. Also the year 1 new toilets don’t have locks on them. If this is a safety issue then I know you can get locks that you can open from the other side if needed as we have one at home. This really stresses my son out when he goes to the toilet – in fact he avoids using the toilet at school which has resulted in him becoming badly constipated a couple of times and needing medication to sort it out. Having lockable toilets would really improve his school experience.”

Lunches“Menu – still not sure … main course generally good but would prefer fruit or yog as only pudding option. Also, how consistent is PE? During 2nd half of autumn/winter term my child maintains that they didn’t have PE most weeks? Appreciate it was busy with Christmas run up but still important I feel.”

“Would appreciate further consultation on school meals.”

“School lunches need improving.”

“It’s a great school but lunches should be improved.”

“Healthy snack time promoted, which is great, however, some of lunch time desserts contradict this policy.

Q8: The school makes sure my child is well prepared for the

future

Overall satisfaction has fallen to 72% from 73% in 2013.

Q9: The school meets my child’s particular needs

Overall satisfaction has risen to 88% from 83% in 2013.

Comments“I think that the school has offered a good balance of activities and makes good use of external providers as well as internal resources to enhance learning on particular topics. The teaching and support staff have been excellent. The only communication problems have been with the school nurse who seemed to lose all of the forms that I completed for her and the correspondence from the hospital consultant, but I appreciate that this is outside the school’s control.”

Q10: The school deals effectively with unacceptable behaviour

Overall satisfaction has fallen to 69% from 71% in 2013.Whilst this indicates a fall, the amount of don’t knows has risen reflecting the fact that it is not an issue for many parents.

Q11: The school takes account of my suggestions & concerns

Overall satisfaction has remained steady

Q12: The school is led and managed effectively

Overall satisfaction has fallen to 94% from 96% in 2013.

Q13: Overall, I am happy with my child’s experience at this school

Overall satisfaction has risen to 97% from 94% in 2013.

Comments“Overall very happy with school and staff.”

Q14: I am happy that the school has a Christian ethos

Overall satisfaction has fallen to 66% from 67% in 2013.

Comments“My one, deep, concern is around the Christian ethos. I want my child to learn fact, not fiction. Teaching children about how the world works while also talking about God discredits the factual message. Of course learning about religion in general is important, because it is an important thing in many societies. But the teaching should be neutral and should certainly not preach one religion over another. I find the idea of Wednesday worship very disturbing.”

“Although I would like my child to be taught humanistic values, I don’t feel the Christian aspect of the school’s ethos is positive for my child. I was told that the Christian elements of the school would be taught as ‘some people believe’ however I have not been convinced by this. Children from other religious or non-religious backgrounds can be left confused by this. I would like to see more being done to celebrate and respect the diversity within the school. Thanks for asking for feedback.”

Q15: I know who the governors are & how to contact them

Overall satisfaction has remained steady

Q16: Parents are consulted on many aspects of school life

Overall satisfaction has fallen to 68% from 83% in 2013.This is not an Ofsted question. However, we will look into the range of respondents in this area and consider further how we disseminate this information.

Q17: As a parent I know what aspects of the school are being focussed on

this year

Overall satisfaction has fallen to 68% from 76% in 2013.Again, not an Ofsted question. The school improvement plan has been promoted via the website and included in the newsletter. Not sure what else to do.

Q18: The newsletters/website keep me up to date with developments at

school

Overall satisfaction has risen to 100% from 94% in 2013.
